By this, non-ejection failure at the ejection opening can be detected. Therefore, in an ink-jet printing apparatus employing a head for ejecting the liquid for making a coloring agent in the ink insoluable for enhancing water resistance, the ejection condition of the head can be successfully detected.

An in ink jet printing method and apparatus are disclosed which prevents mixing of ink with a liquid insolubilizing and/or agglomerating the ink and which can print images having excellent water resistance and high quality. Prevention of mixing of the ink with the liquid is achieved by separately arranging an ink receiver for receiving ink ejected by preliminary ejection and the liquid insolubilizing and/or agglomerating the ink ejected by preliminary ejection, or by setting the distance between the ink jet cartridge for the liquid and the cartridge for ink adjacent thereto is made larger than the distance between two adjacent ink jet cartridges. Alternatively, the direction of ejecting ports of an ink jet ejectors may be deviated. Prevention of mixing may also be achieved by using in addition to printing head ejecting ink onto a printing material, a printability improving liquid ejecting head ejecting a printability improving liquid which insolubilizes and/or agglomerates the coloring material in the ink, and recovering units for recovering the heads. Also, mixing of the ink with the liquid is prevented upon capping, wiping, suction recovering.

This invention is to solve the problem that when images are recorded mixedly in different resolutions, disturbance is brought to images, gaps are created between images, or excessively densified areas appear due to difference in resolutions, that is, changes of dot sizes and recording densities in recording in the area where images are recorded mixedly in high and low resolutions or such images are adjacently present.In a recording area in which images to be recorded in low and high resolutions are mixed, the recording position of images to be recorded in low resolution is offset relatively with respect to the images to be recorded in high resolution for the intended recording, thus achieving the objectives of this invention.Also, in the boundary portion where images to be recorded in low and high resolutions are adjacent to each other, supplementary dots are recorded or recorded dots are intermitted in accordance with the present invention.
