摘要:
A dual structure for a multiplexing section extended to an OSU is obtained without adding a dynamic function, such as an optical switch, to a W-MULDEM. The W-MULDEM of an optical wavelength division multiplexing access system divides, among ports corresponding to the individual ONUs, downstream optical signals having wavelengths λd1 to λdn, which are received along a current-use optical fiber, or downstream optical signals having wavelengths λd1+Δλ to λdn+Δλ, which are received along a redundant optical fiber. The W-MULDEM also multiplexes, for the port that corresponds to the current-use optical fiber or the redundant optical fiber, upstream optical signals having wavelengths λu1 to λun or wavelengths λu1+Δλ to λun+Δλ, which are received along optical fibers corresponding to the ONUs. A wavelength difference between the downstream optical signal and the upstream optical signal that are consonant with each ONU is defined as an integer times the FSR of an AWG.

Multi-wavelength light having a frequency band equal to or greater than the FSR of an AWG is demultiplexed into individual wavelength channels, and power level deviations between wavelength channels are suppressed. An optical demultiplexer includes a wavelength-group demultiplexer that demultiplexes multi-wavelength light into wavelength groups formed from wavelength channels, and channel demultiplexers that demultiplex each wavelength group into wavelength channels light. An optical multiplexer includes channel multiplexers that multiplex modulated signal light of each wavelength channel for each wavelength group, and a wavelength-group multiplexer that multiplexes, for each wavelength group, WDM signal light output from the channel multiplexers. The FSR of the wavelength-group multiplexer/demultiplexer is set to be equal to or greater than the frequency band of the multi-wavelength light. The channel multiplexer/demultiplexer is an AWG in which the FSR is approximately the full width at half maximum of the transmission characteristics of each port of the wavelength-group multiplexer/demultiplexer.

A first optical fiber transmission path is used to transmit continuous-wave light for upstream signal light from the center node to each of the remote nodes, while a second optical fiber transmission path is used to transmit downstream signal light from the center node to each remote node and to transmit upstream signal light (obtained by modulating continuous-wave light) from each remote node to the center node. In this network, specific wavelength bandwidths are allocated to each remote node for the continuous-wave lights (for upstream signal lights) and the downstream signal lights, and the wavelength bandwidths for the continuous-wave lights (for upstream signal lights) and the downstream signal lights are alternately set.

According to the present invention, a star-type wavelength multiplexed communication network using optical TX/RX devices capable of assigning the wavelengths can be provided without using the monitoring light. In an embodiment of the present invention, an optical TX/RX device for transmitting and receiving a wavelength-multiplexed signal light comprises an optical receiver capable of varying the RX wavelength and an optical transmitter capable of varying the TX wavelength. The optical TX/RX device detects RX wavelengths not in use via the optical receiver, and assigns the RX wavelength of the optical receiver to one of the RX wavelengths not-in-use, and assigns the TX wavelength of the optical transmitter to a TX wavelength corresponding to the RX wavelength according to a correspondence table of TX and RX wavelengths in the memory. Then, the optical TX/RX device transmits a signal light on this TX wavelength, and detects the response on the RX wavelength. If the response is detected, communication is initiated using the assigned TX wavelength and the RX wavelength. If the response is not detected, the operation is repeated from the detection of RX wavelengths not in use to the transmission of the signal light on TX wavelength again.

Described herein is a method and an apparatus which permit terminal-carrying ends of wire units to be automatically inserted into a connector housing in a reliable manner almost irrespective of the type and size of the terminal elements to be inserted. This is attained by providing a transfer plate which is movable to a position confronting a selected one of a plurality of connector housings set on an assembling table. An assembling head is mounted on the transfer plate movably in vertical directions and also in directions toward and away from the transfer plate. A wire-embracing terminal portion and a wire portion of the wire unit are gripped by means of openable and closable paired terminal gripping pawls and wire gripping pawls which are vertically movably supported on the assembling head. The posture of the terminal element is adjusted by lowering a terminal presser plate which is vertically movably provided between the paired terminal gripping pawls. The assembling head is moved toward the connector housing to insert the terminal element into the connector housing. The terminal gripping pawls are opened and lifted up as soon as an electric contact portion of the terminal element is inserted into a terminal compartment of the connector housing.

A wire measuring and cutting apparatus 1 is provided with an U-turn guide section 6 which serves to guide a wire W being fed into a guide passage 5b for bending the wire W in a substantially U-shaped manner. In the section 6, a movable guide part 5 is constituted by a pair of guide pieces 5a, 5a which are pivoted so as to open and close together. The U-turn guide section 6 is provided with a displacement mechanism 8. The mechanism 8 can maintain the pair of guide pieces 5a, 5a in the closed position. While, the mechanism 8 can displace the guide pieces 5a, 5a for the opened position together with feeding inertia of the wire W in process of measuring the length of the wire W. With this structure, the guide pieces 5a, 5a can be opened at high speed due to the feeding inertia in addition to the driving force of the mechanism 8 to open the pieces 5a, 5a and there is no need to stop feeding the wire W during the measurement of the wire W.

A method and an apparatus for smoothly and securely inserting a terminal connected to an electric wire into a terminal accommodating chamber within a connector housing from an opening in a notched rear end portion of the housing. The housing has an interior divided by partition walls into a plurality of terminal accommodating chambers each having a rear end defining an opening through which the terminal can be inserted, a notched shoulder portion formed in each partition wall at at least one of joints between the partition wall and top and bottom walls of the housing, and a terminal retaining cover capable of opening away from and closing onto the notched shoulder portions. A guide wall capable of engaging with the notched shoulder portions when the terminal retaining cover is open, thereby defining a flame-shaped terminal insertion opening, allows the terminal to be inserted through the terminal insertion opening. Thus, the terminal being inserted is prevented from being caught on the top or bottom wall of the housing.
