    摘要: An object is to provide a biological sample observation system wherein light damage to the biological sample is decreased, and observation can be performed accurately and quickly over a long period of time. A biological sample observation system which continuously obtains information on a biological sample that is cultured inside of a culturing container has: an imaging section which observes mutually different regions that are previously selected, among regions to be observed including the biological sample, through an object lens for observing the biological sample in the culturing container through a part of the culturing container; an autofocus section which detects the focusing of the object lens with respect to a predetermined region among the regions to be observed; and a focusing drive control section which controls the focusing of the object lens when the biological sample is observed using the imaging section, based on the detection result of the focusing previously performed by the autofocus section. After the focus detection is performed by the autofocus section, without being intervened by the focus detection using the autofocus section, and the different regions are continuously observed by the imaging section, with the focusing controlled by the focusing drive control section.

    摘要: An optical pick-up apparatus for reproducing information recorded on a magneto-optical record medium including a semiconductor laser emitting a linearly polarized laser beam, and a polarizing film provided between a glass prism and a uniaxial birefringent crystal prism. The laser beam emitted by the semiconductor laser is made incident upon the polarizing film via the glass prism and is reflected thereby. The apparatus further includes an objective lens projecting the laser beam reflected by the polarizing film onto the magneto-optical record medium as a fine spot and converging a return laser beam reflected by the record medium toward the polarizing film. The return beam transmitted through the polarizing film is refracted by the uniaxial birefringent crystal prism and is divided into ordinary light and extraordinary light, which are received by a first photodetector to produce a reproduced information signal. The return beam reflected by the polarizing film is made incident upon a hologram and is diffracted thereby into .+-.1-order beams which are received by a second photodetector to produce a focusing error signal and a tracking error signal.

An optic axis of the first prism is set such that the return beam is separated into ordinary and extraordinary light beams having identical intensities and an optic axis of the second prism is rotated with respect to the optic axis of the first prism.
