    摘要: According to one embodiment, an image processing apparatus includes a scale down unit, a calculation unit, a scale up unit, and a subtraction unit. The scale down unit generates a scaled down image by scaling down a target image. The scaled down image has a size smaller than the target image. The calculation unit calculates a pixel value of a diffuse reflection component of each pixel in the scaled down image, and generates a first diffuse reflection image having the pixel value and the same size as the scaled down image. The scale up unit generates a second diffuse reflection image by scaling up the first diffuse reflection image. The second diffuse reflection image has the same size as the target image. The subtraction unit generates a specular reflection image by subtracting the second diffuse reflection image from the target image.

A first calculation unit calculates a first gamma characteristic signal of an image to be displayed, based on the display luminance signal and gray-scale levels of pixels of the image. A second calculation unit calculates a second gamma characteristic signal of each area of the image, based on gray-scale levels of pixels of each area. A conversion unit converts a gray-scale level of each pixel of the image, based on the first gamma characteristic signal and the second gamma characteristic signal of an area including a pixel to be converted in the image. The display unit displays the image in which the gray-scale level of each pixel was converted, based on the display luminance signal.

    摘要: According to one embodiment, an image display apparatus includes a liquid crystal panel, a backlight, a luminance distribution calculation unit, an error calculation unit, and an emission intensity update unit. The backlight includes a plurality of light sources which emit light. The luminance distribution calculation unit calculates a predicted value for an intensity distribution of light entering the liquid crystal panel if each of the light sources is lit with an emission intensity. The error calculation unit obtains a brightness of a display image which is realized if the each of the light sources is lit with the emission intensity, and the error calculation unit calculates an error between the obtained brightness and an ideal brightness of the display image corresponding to the input video signal. The emission intensity update unit updates the emission intensity of the each of the light sources to reduce the error.

The control unit is configured to generate a control signal controlling the basic light source and the extended light source so as to provide a period in which the basic light source and the extended light source simultaneously emit light.

The intensity setting unit sets intensities of the light sources, respectively. The presumption unit presumes color information based on intensity information representing the intensities. The signal correction unit corrects an input video signal according to the color information, and obtains a corrected video signal. The error calculation unit presumes a display image from the corrected video signal and the input video signal, and calculates display errors between the presumed display image and an input image corresponding to the input video signal. The control unit controls sets the intensities of the light sources as the emission intensities of the backlight so that the display errors obtained from the error calculation unit can be minimum.
