摘要: A liquid crystal display comprising first and second liquid crystal display panel (1, 3), each defining an array of picture elements (13, 15). The resolution of the image displayed on the second liquid crystal display panel (3) is lower than that of the image displayed on the first liquid crystal display panel (1). The picture elements (15) of the second liquid crystal display panel (3), located between the first liquid crystal display panel (1) and backlighting means (2) may be relatively large and preferably partially overlap at least in one direction. A charge is selectively applied to the picture elements (15) of the second liquid crystal display panel (3) corresponding to the relatively darker portions of the image to be displayed on the first liquid crystal panel (1), so as to at least limit the amount of light reaching these portions of the first liquid crystal display panel (1) and thereby increasing the contrast trio of the device. In an alternative embodiment, the image displayed on the second liquid crystal display panel (3) may be blurred relative to the image displayed on the first liquid crystal display panel (1) and/or the image displayed on the first liquid crystal display panel (1) may be sharpened relative to the image displayed on the second liquid crystal display panel (3).

摘要: A method of driving a plasma display panel showing images having frames composed of odd and even fields. The plasma display panel has scan electrodes and address electrodes perpendicular to the scan electrodes. In the method, first the odd and then the even scan electrodes, or vice versa, are addressed in the frame and subsequently sustained. This method saves time, which may be used to speed up the plasma display device.

摘要: The present invention provides a method of displaying successive image frames or fields on a matrix display device, said display device comprising a predetermined number of display lines each including a predetermined number of picture elements, wherein said pixels are coded in subfields and said matrix display device is driven by said subfields and wherein the luminance values to be displayed are derived from original luminance values having a higher number of bits than the number of bits to be displayed by a pixel element, said method further comprising the following steps: using one or more of the subfields with the lowest or lower weight(s) in a dithering process; and addressing two or more lines simultaneously for supplying common values to one or more subfields having a higher weight than said lowest or lower weight(s) of the pixels of said lines with respective common values.

摘要: The display panel (21) comprises a light guide (2), a second plate (4) and a movable element (3) between both plates for locally decoupling light out of the light guide (2). Voltages, applied to electrodes (5,6 resp. 25), associated with the light guide (2), the second plate (4) and the movable element (3), locally bring the movable element (3) into 5 contact with the light guide plate (2) or the second plate (4). If, between the light guide (2) and the first electrodes (5) a layer (51) is present with a second refractive index being smaller than the first refractive index of the light guide (2), and the light guide (2) is positioned between the first electrodes (5) and the movable element (3), absorption of the light transported through the light guide plate (2) is reduced, providing a display panel (21) with 10 improved power efficiency.

摘要: Logos may be present in images transmitted by television stations. These logos are often present in the corners (102, 104) of an image (100) for a long time. They do not move and may comprise saturated colors. This results in burn-in effects in emissive displays because the logos provide the same display load at the same location for a relatively long period of time. The burn-in effect can be prevented by detecting the logos in the corners (102, 104) of the image (100) and reducing their intensity to the average display load.
