    Abstract: A smooth top gas range which includes a hood that draws cooking vapors and fumes and air into a regenerative type heat exchanger for preheating prior to combustion with gas at the burner surface unit. Each burner unit is enclosed in a separate combustion compartment with heat being transmitted to a cooking vessel through an air impervious compartment wall or plate by means of radiation. The combustion products exhaust from the combustion compartment, are cooled to a safe temperature by the heat exchanger and are finally vented to the room.

    Abstract: A gas burner for heating a pot or pan for use on a gas range top. The burner includes a planar portion and a recessed portion which is unitary with the planar portion. A chamber is provided below the recessed portion and passage means extend from the chamber and pass outwardly through the recessed portion. Means are provided for introducing a gaseous combustible medium, such as a mixture of air and gas, to the chamber and for directing the combustible mixture through the passage means. Means are also provided for igniting the gaseous combustible mixture as it passes outwardly through the passage means in the recessed portion.

    Abstract: The application discloses improved checker-box-type regenerators in combination with gas-fired domestic or commercial appliances, such as home incinerators, cooking ovens, smooth top ranges, mangles and the like, employing single, double, and plenum-type heating or combustion chambers. The input ambient air is preheated as it passes through a checker-box, and is then ducted to the appliance. The hot exhaust air and gases pass countercurrent through another section of an adjacent checker-box and are thereby cooled. The cooled flue products may be vented directly into the room wherein the appliance is situated if desired, without technical or safety problems arising, codes permitting. The use of the regenerator is in accordance with a process in which the rate of heating in the appliance is controlled.
