A self-rousing surveillance system, method and computer program product for monitoring activity across a geographical location. Surveillance sensors are distributed about a geographical location and normally in a low surveillance state. A sensor controller controls data collection by each surveillance sensors. An event monitor receives reports indicating events at local areas within the geographical location. The event monitor identifies local areas with each report. The sensor controller places surveillance sensors identified with the respective local area in a heightened surveillance state in response to received reports

A method for calculating sales trend of a product at a store shelf based on crowdsourcing, includes receiving, by a retail store server, availability data of a product measured on a shelf in the retail store from a portable device, where the availability data is in the form of a picture acquired of the product on the shelf, identifying products on the shelf using tags attached to the shelves, calculating sales velocity and sales trends of the product from the identified products, and transmitting the sales velocity and sales trend of the product to one or more third parties' systems in a supply chain of said retail store. Products and their locations on retail store shelves have been cataloged in a product database.

A infrastructure sensitivity centric weather forecast system, method of forecasting weather and a computer program product therefor. A forecasting computer applies a grid to a forecast area, locates infrastructure, e.g. power grid infrastructure, in the area and determines weather effects on infrastructure in each grid cell. A targeted selection module iteratively identifies grid cells for refinement in response to the weather effects on cell infrastructure. In each iteration a refined grid is applied to each grid cell identified as containing infrastructure that may be sensitive, or vulnerable, to expected weather. The forecasting computer refines the area considered to focus on area infrastructure and sensitivities/vulnerabilities to expected weather.

A computer system generates video based cohorts. Digital video data is processed to identify a set of color and texture based attributes associated with clothing worn by a set of objects. The digital video data comprises metadata describing the set of objects. The set of color and texture based attributes are analyzed using cohort criteria to form a result. The cohort criteria specify attributes that are associated with members of a given cohort. A set of cohorts is generated based on the result. Each cohort in the set of cohorts comprises a subset of objects from the set of objects that share at least one color and texture based attribute in common.
