摘要: In an approach to improve magnetic tape file systems through tape-to-tape copying between nodes on a Linear Tape File System using a cluster-wide named pipe. Embodiments transfer data between a first node and a second node. Additionally, both the first node and the second node implement a parallel shared-disk file system through a data path for node data reading and writing from a shared-disk and to the shared-disk. Further, to transfer data between the first node and the second node, embodiments, write, by the first node, the data for tape-to-tape copy from a first tape drive to the shared-disk, and write, by the second node, the data written from the shared-disk to a second tape drive.

摘要: A computer implemented method includes receiving a list of areas on a subject tape to be read, wherein each area of the list of areas is indicated by a first record number and a last record number corresponding to the area, identifying parameters of a tape drive configured to read the subject tape, wherein the identified parameters of the tape drive contribute to a speed with which the tape drive can read the list of areas, creating a directed graph of the areas on the subject tape based on the identified parameters, wherein the directed graph indicates how long the tape drive will take to read the areas on the subject tape, and determining a fastest reading order of the areas on the subject tape, based, at least in part, on the directed graph and the identified parameters. A computer program product and computer system are also disclosed.

摘要: In an approach to improving write performance by enabling host data transfer immediately after a reposition command, responsive to receiving on a tape drive a reposition command from a host, a ready response is returned to the host. Write data from the host is accumulated in a write buffer, where the write data is accumulated in the write buffer while simultaneously moving a tape media in the tape drive to a target location. The write data from the write buffer is written to the tape media immediately after the target location is reached on the tape drive.

摘要: A computer-implemented method for migrating file data in a hierarchical storage environment includes: detecting that a file recalled from a magnetic tape to a primary storage device was modified; determining whether the magnetic tape from which the file was recalled is loaded in a tape drive upon detecting that the file was modified; responsive to determining that the magnetic tape from which the file was recalled is loaded in the tape drive upon detecting that the file was modified, appending only a modified portion of the file to the magnetic tape; and responsive to determining that the magnetic tape from which the file was recalled is not loaded in the tape drive upon detecting that the file was modified, appending the file in its entirety, including the modified portion of the file and any unmodified portions of the file, to a different magnetic tape.

摘要: In an approach to automatically reclassifying files in an HSM system, responsive to occurrence of a recall to move a file on a hierarchical storage system from a secondary storage to a primary storage, whether stub metadata exists for the file is determined. Responsive to determining that stub metadata exists for the file, whether reclassification of the file is necessary is determined based on the stub metadata. Responsive to determining that the reclassification of the file is necessary, the file is reclassified, where the reclassification uses a latest classification model, and further where the stub metadata is updated with results of the reclassification. The file is migrated from the primary storage to the secondary storage based on the stub metadata.

摘要: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to a method for reducing repositioning time within tape systems. A request to reposition to a target file within a tape medium can be received. A determination can be made that a previous command issued to the tape system was a write and that an index corresponding to the write has not been written. In response to determining that the previous command was the write and that the index corresponding to the write has not been written, a first file mark, the index after the first file mark, and a second file mark after the index can be written.

摘要: A linear tape file system (LTFS) maintains a series of indexes, and an incremental change dataset, that records incremental changes that have taken place in each new index over the previous one, as each new index of the series is created. Upon receiving a command to roll back the file system from a current generation to a target previous generation, a generation control module applies information in the incremental change dataset to the current index. In this way, the current index is restored, at least functionally, to the state it was in when the target generation was created, thereby effectuating the rollback of the file system to the target generation.
