Abstract:
Embodiments for optimizing sequential write operations in a data deduplication environment by one or more processors. Similar data deduplication signatures for stored data at all storage devices in one or more storage systems may be maintained. A deduplication signature associated with a write operation at a storage device may be compared to the similar data deduplication signatures. Results of the comparison with each of the other storage devices may be shared prior to performing the write operation.
Abstract:
A system and non-transitory computer program product for preserving data redundancy in a data deduplication system in a computing environment is provided. A selected data segment, to be written through the data deduplication system, is encrypted such that the selected data segment is not subject to a deduplication operation. Copies of the data segment that are to be precluded from data deduplication are determined and identified. A unique encryption key is used to encrypt the selected data segment to be written through the data deduplication system such that the selected data segment is not subject to a deduplication operation. The data deduplication system is tricked to recognize the encrypted, selected data segment as new, undeduplicated data by the encrypting thereby skipping steps of the deduplication operation that includes fingerprint generation and matching. The encrypted, selected data segment is directly written to a new physical storage location.
Abstract:
A first volume is maintained at a primary site and a second volume is maintained at a secondary site, where operations to mirror the first volume at the primary site to the second volume at the secondary site are performed while other volumes of the primary site and the secondary site are maintained in a remote copy relationship. Input/Output (I/O) operations comprising writing a metadata on the first volume at the primary site are performed and corresponding read I/O operations are performed on the second volume at the secondary site. In response to determining that the metadata read in two consecutive read I/O operations on the second volume at the secondary site does not reflect updates as requested to be made to the first volume at the primary site, determining that the primary site has failed.
Abstract:
A method for preserving data redundancy in a data deduplication system in a computing environment is provided. A selected data segment, to be written through the data deduplication system, is encrypted such that the selected data segment is not subject to a deduplication operation. The method determines and identifies copies of the data segment that are to be precluded from data deduplication.
Abstract:
An application programming interface (API) is used to migrate, from a specified source LUN to a specified target LUN, at least one specified sub-LUN data chunk, the API functioning as an interface between a storage controller and an owning application.
Abstract:
Various embodiments for preserving data redundancy in a data deduplication system in a computing environment are provided. In one embodiment, a method for such preservation is disclosed. A selected data segment, to be written through the data deduplication system, is encrypted such that the selected data segment is not subject to a deduplication operation.
Abstract:
Various embodiments for managing data stored in a tiered data storage environment, by a processor device, are provided. A data file is proactively migrated from a lower tier to a higher tier of the tiered data storage environment by using a multidimensional algorithm adopting an actual frequency of access of the data file to gauge a slope of a predicted frequency of access of the data file. The data file is migrated from the lower tier to the higher tier only if each of a plurality of criteria of the multidimensional algorithm is satisfied.
Abstract:
Various embodiments for preserving data redundancy in a data deduplication system in a computing environment are provided. A write command is received for writing a selected data segment to a physical storage location. A determination is made as to whether the write command includes an indicator including at least one of a bit and a flag, the indicator designating that the selected data segment must not be subject to a deduplication operation. An indicator is configured by providing a system call with an extended attribute indicating that the selected data segment must be written to physical memory notwithstanding the selected data segment matching data written to the physical memory earlier in time.
Abstract:
Various embodiments for preserving data redundancy of identical data in a data deduplication system in a computing environment are provided. In one embodiment, a method for such preservation is disclosed. A selected range of virtual addresses of a virtual storage device in the computing environment is designated as not subject to a deduplication operation. Other system and computer program product embodiments are disclosed and provide related advantages.
Abstract:
A source code-based specification is implemented for use as an interface between a storage controller and an owning application to migrate a specified size of data from physical storage behind the LUN to a new physical location.
