Abstract: A sight glass apparatus for viewing the interior of a pressurised vessel, chamber or a pipe conveying fluid under pressure is described. The sight glass apparatus comprises a sight glass assembly mounted over an opening into the vessel, chamber or pipe, the sight glass assembly comprising a sight glass adjacent the opening which provides a window to the inside of the vessel, chamber or pipe, and a containment vessel mounted behind and/or around the sight glass assembly for containing fluid exiting the opening in the pipe in the event that the sight glass assembly fails. In this way, even if the sight glass assembly fails, the pressurised fluid within the pressurised vessel, chamber or pipe is safely contained. In addition, a secondary sight glass can be provided behind the first, with a liquid or gel, or minimal gap, between the primary and secondary glasses to reduce the likelihood of a failure in the first sight glass triggering failure of the second sight glass, and/or a valve can be provided to automatically isolate the pressure system upon a sight glass failure.

Abstract: An optical chemical analyzer comprises a source of a first amount of radiation (46), an optics module configured to direct the first amount of radiation such that it is incident on or passes though a target (14) at a target location, the optics module further being configured to receive a second amount of Raman scattered radiation from the target and direct the second amount of radiation (206) to a Spatial Interference Fourier Transform (SIFT) module, the SIFT module including a first dispersive element (216) and a second dispersive element (218), the SIFT module being configured such that a portion of the second amount of radiation is received by the first dispersive element and interferes with a portion of the second amount of radiation received by the second dispersive element to form an interference pattern; the SIFT module further comprising a detector (48) configured to capture an image of at least a portion of the interference pattern and produce a detector signal (226) based on the captured image; and a processor configured to receive the detector signal from the detector and perform a Fourier transform on the detector signal to thereby obtain a frequency spectrum of the second amount of radiation.

Abstract: An apparatus for detecting the presence of liquid in a high pressure gas pipeline (4) is described. The apparatus comprises a sight glass (2), providing a window into the inside of the pipeline, and a light sensor (1), for receiving and sensing reflected light from the inside of the pipeline through the sight glass. The apparatus also comprises a processor, for automatically detecting the presence of a liquid based on the sensed reflected light. In this way, automatic detection of the presence of liquid in a gas pipeline can be achieved based on the measurement of reflected light, which can be expected to differ when liquid is present compared with when no liquid is present. No visual inspection by an operator is required—although the data can be stored for later operator use or verification if necessary.
