    摘要: A driver (106) for driving pixels (104) of a display (102), wherein the pixels are divided into a first group and a second group and the driver is constructed for supplying a first drive signal to a first pixel and a second drive signal to a second pixel, the first and second pixels being neighboring pixels. The driver (106) comprises means for generating a first upper value and a first lower value; and means for generating a second upper value and a second lower value. It comprises means for driving, in a first operating mode, the first pixel with the first lower value and driving the second pixel with the second upper value. In a second operating mode, driving the first pixel with the first upper value and driving the second pixel with the second lower value. Means (108) for controlling the operating mode alternates between the first operating mode and the second operating mode.

    摘要: A beam shaping device (1; 50; 60) comprising first (3) and second (4) substrates, a liquid crystal layer (2) sandwiched between the substrates, and a first electrode layer (5; 51) provided on a side of the first substrate (3) facing the liquid crystal layer (2). The beam shaping device is controllable between beam shaping states, each permitting passage of light through the beam shaping device, and further comprises an insulating layer (7) covering the first electrode layer (5; 51) and a second electrode layer (6; 53) provided on top of the insulating layer. The second electrode layer (6; 53) comprises a conductor pattern exposing a portion of the insulating layer (7). The beam shaping device is configured in such a way that application of a voltage (V) between the first (5; 51) and second (6; 53) electrode layers causes liquid crystal molecules comprised in a portion of the liquid crystal layer (2) corresponding to the exposed portion of the insulating layer to tilt in a plane perpendicular to the liquid crystal layer, resulting in a local refractive index gradient, thereby enabling shaping of a beam (8) of light passing through the beam shaping device.

The liquid crystal layer is placed between said common electrode and the electrode set, and the electrode set is provided for switching the liquid crystal layer. The first electrode has a shape which in cooperation with the second electrode allows alignment of the LC molecules in substantially two orthogonal directions. A method is provided to get rid of the circular polarizers which provide a good on-axis aperture but which show reduced off-axis performance compared to linear polarizers.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal layer, a common electrode, and an electrode set. The liquid crystal layer is placed between said common electrode and the electrode set, and the electrode set is provided for switching the liquid crystal layer.
