Abstract: An electro-optical device includes a transmission polarization axis conversion unit having a first surface and a second surface, an absorption polarization unit having transmission polarization axis in a first direction and having absorption polarization axis in a second direction, and a reflective polarization unit including a region having a transmission polarization axis in the first direction and a reflective polarization axis in the second direction, and an opening. The transmission polarization axis conversion unit can switch a first/second state, the first state is an incident light entering the first surface from the absorption polarization unit is converted into a first outgoing light of linearly polarized light in the second direction, and the first outgoing light is emitted from the second surface, the second state is the incident light converted into a second outgoing light of linearly polarized light in the first direction and emitted from the second surface.

Abstract: In a color display device, when using white (W) sub-pixels in addition to subpixels of red (R) and green (G) plus blue (B) without increasing a wiring line number, the per-color pixel number in a unit area decreases so that the image resolution is deteriorated. The area and number of subpixels are adjusted in accordance with the visual sensitivity or luminosity required. Practically, the area of red (R) and blue (B) subpixels which are relatively low in luminosity is set to be about two times greater than the area of green (G) and white (W) subpixels that are relatively high in luminosity while letting the number of green (G) and white (W) subpixels be twice the number of red (R) and blue (B) subpixels. A larger subpixel is configured from a plurality of unit subpixels. A smaller subpixel is formed of a one unit subpixel.

Abstract: A display device includes: an organic layer arranged in plural pixels which are arranged in a display area in a matrix; a first electrode that is formed on a surface of the organic layer opposite to a substrate, and transmits a visible light; a second electrode that holds the organic layer in cooperation with the first electrode, and is lower in the transmittance of the visible light, and higher in the reflectance than the first electrode; an insulating layer that holds the second electrode in cooperation with the organic layer, and higher in the transmittance of the visible light, and lower in the reflectance than the second electrode; and a third electrode that holds the insulating layer in cooperation with the second electrode, is formed across adjacent pixels of the plural pixels, and lower in the transmittance of the visible light, and higher in the reflectance than the second electrode.

Abstract: When a previously existing technique is applied to a white OLED, such a structure is adopted that the peak wavelength of the intensity of interference is the emission peak wavelength corresponding to blue or less. However, in this case, the intensity of interference of the wavelength range corresponding to red is reduced to decrease the light emission intensity of red. A display device is configured in which a stacked film configuring a white light emitting element (an organic light-emitting diode element) is configured in such a manner that the peak wavelength of the intensity of interference is the peak wavelength of the light emission intensity corresponding to blue or less. The light emission intensity of the light emitting element corresponding to a red pixel is made greater than the light emission intensity of the light emitting elements corresponding to pixels for other colors.

Abstract: A display device having a plurality of light-emitting elements that construct picture elements aligned on a TFT substrate in a formation of a matrix. The display device includes the plurality of light-emitting elements each having a flat surface portion and including a light-emitting layer, an anode, and a cathode; a plurality of driver elements each coupled to the light-emitting element; a plurality of capacitor elements each of which is coupled to the light emitting element and receives an image signal; a plurality of switching elements each of which is coupled to the capacitor element and the light emitting element and control input of the image signal to the capacitor; and an insulation layer having a contact hole formed over the driver element. The anode is formed on the insulation layer and coupled to the driver element via the contact hole.

Abstract: A display device includes a plurality of light-emitting elements aligned on a TFT substrate in a formation of a matrix. The plurality of light-emitting elements each have a flat surface portion and including a light-emitting layer, an anode, and a cathode, an insulating layer formed on the TFT substrate and under the light emitting element, and a tilted metal surface provided on a peripheral area surrounding the flat surface portion of the light-emitting element and having a tilt angle with respect to the flat surface portion of the light-emitting element. The tilted metal surface is provided on a surface of a slope of a bank that is provided on the insulation layer, and a width of a cross-section of the bank becomes smaller as the cross section conies farther away from a surface of the TFT substrate. A counter substrate is placed on the TFT substrate.

Abstract: In a display device, light emitting areas and colored areas each have a predetermined planar shape having no rotational symmetry so that rotation of the area by an angle greater than or equal to 0° but smaller than 360° does not produce an initial shape of the area and are so arranged as to have different types of rotation angle. The colored areas are grouped based on a set of the colored areas of colors different from one another to forma plurality of full-color pixels. The full-color pixels are so arranged that the rotation angle of the colored areas of the same color have different types. In the full-color pixels of the same type, the colored areas of the same color have the same rotation angle. Abstract: A display device includes a plurality of light-emitting elements aligned on a TFT substrate in a formation of a matrix.
