Abstract: A backlight unit includes a light source having an emission region, a wiring board having the light source mounted thereon, a light guide plate having a side surface into which light from the light source enters, and a front surface from which the light exits, a light shielding adhesive tape adhering to the wiring board, and an optical sheet which overlaps with the front surface of the light guide plate. The front surface of the light guide plate includes an effective region serving as a planar light source and a light entering region ranging from the side surface to the effective region. The wiring board and the light-shielding adhesive tape each have a part positioned in the light entering region, and the optical sheet is arranged from the effective region to the light entering region. An end portion of the optical sheet overlaps with the light-shielding tape.

Abstract: A display device includes a first substrate on which a thin film transistor is formed and which is divided into a display area and a non-display area outside thereof, a second substrate arranged to face an upper surface of the first substrate. a light-shielding film provided in an area between the first substrate and the second substrate, and a circuit provided on an upper surface of the second substrate and in an area facing the display area. The second substrate includes a terminal part of the circuit, which is provided on the upper surface of the second substrate and in an area facing the non-display area. The terminal part is connected with a circuit driving substrate, which drives the circuit through an anisotropic conductive film covering the terminal part. The light-shielding film is provided to avoid at least part of an area facing the terminal part.

Abstract: The present invention is intended to control the color temperature of white exhibited by a liquid crystal display device. White is produced when light waves emitted through pixels associated with three colors of red, green, and blue have maximum intensities. The amounts of light emitted through the respective pixels are controlled by differentiating the shapes of the pixel electrodes disposed at the respective pixels from one another. Thus, the color temperature of white is controlled. Otherwise, the shapes of interceptive films disposed at the respective pixels are differentiated from one another in order to control light waves emitted through the respective pixels. Thus, the color temperature of white is controlled. The interceptive film may be shaped like the pixel electrode. Otherwise, the interceptive film may be realized with an interceptive pattern other than that of the pixel electrode or one of openings bored in a black matrix.
