摘要: Systems, devices, and methods for eyebox expansion in wearable heads-up displays (“WHUDs”) are described. The WHUDs described herein each include a projector and an optical waveguide positioned in an optical path between the projector and an eye of the user. For any given light signal from the projector, the optical waveguide receives the light signal at an input coupler and outputs multiple instances or copies of the light signal from multiple discrete, spatially-separated output couplers. The multiple instances or copies of the light signal may be converged by the optical waveguide directly to respective exit pupils at the user's eye or may be routed by the optical waveguide to a holographic combiner in the user's field of view from which the light signals may be converged to respective exit pupils at the user's eye. The optical waveguide employs exit pupil replication to expand the eyebox of the WHUD.

摘要: A display system comprises a waveguide having light incoupling or light outcoupling optical elements formed of a metasurface. The metasurface is a multilevel (e.g., bi-level) structure having a first level defined by spaced apart protrusions formed of a first optically transmissive material and a second optically transmissive material between the protrusions. The metasurface also includes a second level formed by the second optically transmissive material. The protrusions on the first level may be patterned by nanoimprinting the first optically transmissive material, and the second optically transmissive material may be deposited over and between the patterned protrusions. The widths of the protrusions and the spacing between the protrusions may be selected to diffract light, and a pitch of the protrusions may be 10-600 nm.

The back cover is formed with second patterns arranged in a longitudinal direction of the back cover at a portion of the back cover, on which the light receiving portion is mounted. The first patterns are formed to have a greater width with increasing distance from the light source. The second patterns are formed to have the same width.

摘要: An optical device is provided for coupling an external optical signal into a plurality of on-chip photonic sub-circuits provided on a substrate. The optical device comprises: a planar waveguide layer on the substrate; a diverging grating coupler configured to couple the external optical signal to the planar waveguide layer and to thereby create an on-chip diverging optical beam in the planar waveguide layer; and a plurality of channel waveguides formed in the waveguide layer. Each channel waveguide of the plurality of channel waveguides comprises a waveguide transition structure having a waveguide aperture oriented towards the diverging grating coupler. For each channel waveguide of the plurality of channel waveguides the position and the width of the corresponding waveguide aperture and the angle and the shape of the waveguide transition structure are individually selected to capture a predetermined portion of the on-chip diverging optical beam.

The light guide plate is disposed on the back plate and includes a first optical surface, a second optical surface and a light-incident surface. The first optical surface is opposite to the second optical surface. The light-incident surface connects the first optical surface and the second optical surface. The first optical surface or the second optical surface of the light guide plate is set with a recess. The adhesive member is disposed in the recess to adhere the light guide plate to the back plate. The light source is disposed on the back plate and emits light toward the light guide plate.

摘要: The present invention provides a light compensator, a shading tape, a backlight module and a display device. The light compensator comprises a first surface on which at least one recess is provided, wherein, when the light compensator is arranged above an edge of an optical element, the first surface faces a light-exiting surface of the optical element, and a surface of the recess is capable of converging light irradiating thereon and reflecting the light toward an area with low luminance on the light-exiting surface of the optical element. The above light compensator can perform light compensation on areas with low luminance on the light-exiting surface of the optical element, enhance the luminance of the areas with low luminance on the light-exiting surface of the optical element, and achieve luminance uniformity of respective areas on the light-exiting surface of the optical element.
