    摘要: Techniques to partition and allocate the available system resources among cells in a communication system, and to allocate the resources in each cell to terminals for data transmission on the uplink. In one aspect, adaptive reuse schemes are provided wherein the available system resources may be dynamically and/or adaptively partitioned and allocated to the cells based on a number of factors such as the observed interference levels, loading conditions, system requirements, and so on. A reuse plan is initially defined and may be redefined to reflect changes in the system. In another aspect, the system resources may be partitioned such that each cell is allocated a set of channels having different performance levels. In yet another aspect, terminals in each cell are scheduled for data transmission (e.g., based on their priority or load requirements) and assigned channels based on their tolerance to interference and the channels' performance.

    摘要: A power-efficient wireless device is equipped with multiple (N) antennas. Each antenna is associated with a transmitter unit and a receiver unit. The wireless device also has processing units used to perform various digital processing tasks. The transmitter units, receiver units, and processing units may be selectively enabled or disabled. In an idle state, the wireless device may enable only a subset (e.g., one) of the N receiver units and one or few processing units for signal detection and acquisition. For active communication, the wireless device may enable Ntx transmitter units for data transmission and/or Nrx receiver units for data reception, where 1≧Ntx≧N and 1≧Nrx≧N. The enabled processing units may also be clocked at a lower frequency whenever data is transmitted or received at a data rate lower than the highest data rate. The wireless device may go to sleep whenever possible to conserve power.

    摘要: A power conservation scheme is provided for conserving power in an access terminal that includes a dedicated proxy circuit, a receiver/transmitter chain, and/or a baseband processor. The baseband processor is adapted to determine when a wireless communication link with an access network has been inactive for at least a threshold amount of time. If such inactivity is ascertained, the baseband processor sends a proxy request to the proxy circuit. Upon receiving such proxy request, the proxy circuit monitors a data, control, and/or paging channel on behalf of the access terminal while the baseband processor is powered down. If a signal is received for the access terminal over the monitored channel, then a wake-up signal is sent to the baseband processor to cause it to power up and monitor a data channel. Upon receiving a response from the baseband processor, the proxy circuit may stop operating as a proxy.

    摘要: Systems, methods and apparatus for configuring and accessing a random access channel in a CDMA communication system are disclosed. The number of users supported by a random access channel can be optimized by assigning a distinct time of arrival to each of a plurality of users. Each of the users can be time synchronized and can transmit data at a time that compensates for a propagation delay to allow the data to arrive at the destination receiver at the assigned time. In a CDMA system, each of the users can transmit data that is spread with the same spreading code, provided the cross correlation properties of the code are sufficient to allow identification of a source that is time offset relative to another user. The time of arrival can be determined based on the number of active users, and can be assigned as often as each transmission by each user.

    摘要: A system and method are provided for creating a picocell service alternate to a wireless network service. The method comprises: detecting a multiple access (MA) wireless communications network, such is a terrestrial or satellite network; and, generating a first picocell in response to detecting the MA wireless network. Typically, the method comprises receiving requests for picocell service from mobile stations, in response to generating the first picocell. In one aspect, the service requests made by the mobile stations are denied. In another aspect, the method further comprises: establishing a first picocell MSC; and, providing network services to mobile stations via the first picocell, in response to the requests for picocell service. For example, the first picocell MSC may provide the same network services that are provided by a conventional terrestrial network, for example. Alternately, the method establishes an alternative wireless network (a second picocell) to provide services.

    摘要: A base station architecture splits modem functionality into modulator and demodulator entities, each configured to handle multiple telephone calls. A high-speed digital bus with associated routing elements connects multiple-channel (i.e., multiuser) modulator and demodulator elements. The modulator and demodulator elements may be physically separated, residing on different cards, and even different shelves, within the base station. On each modulator card, the outputs of multiple modulators may be combined by digitally upconverting the output of each modulator by a different amount and summing the results.
