An interconnecting assembly (100) for a rotor assembly of a dynamoelectric machine is provided. The interconnecting assembly may be part of an electrically conductive path generally extending from a radially inward section of the rotor assembly to a top winding of a stacked winding (128) located at a radially outward section of the rotor assembly. The interconnecting assembly may include a first connecting member (106) connected to a radial lead (104) at the inward section of the rotor assembly. This first connecting member is made up of multiple conductive leaves and includes a flexible bend (108) positioned to provide a resilient-connection relative to at least a radial direction. The interconnecting assembly may further include a second connecting member (124) mechanically connected to the first connecting member by way of the resilient connection. This second connecting member is electrically connected to the first connecting member and to the top winding. The second connecting member may include a stiffener (138) for providing support relative to an outer portion of the bend to increase stiffness and prevent buckling of the bend due to a centrifugal force that develops during operation of the machine.

An improved generator rotor (30) and a method of repairing an existing generator rotor (12) are disclosed. Methods consistent with the present invention provide techniques for repairing existing stress-damaged rotors (12) to remove stress-induced cracks (29), without requiring new retaining rings (16), to significantly extend the useful life of a generator without the cost and complexity of conventional repair techniques. Improved generator rotors (30) consistent with the present invention provide a tooth-top design that is more resistant to stress-induced cracking than conventional designs, resulting in new generators with longer useful lives.

Cooling air is provided from a source of cooling air through a cooling air circuit in a turbine section of a gas turbine engine. A first portion of cooling air is provided from the source along a first path of the circuit to a plurality of blades associated with a stage of the turbine section. A second portion of cooling air is provided from the source along a second path of the circuit. The second path includes a turbine disc bore where the cooling air provides cooling to a radially innermost portion of at least one turbine disc that forms a part of a rotor of the engine. The second path is independent from the first path such that the second portion of cooling air bypasses the stage and is not mixed with the first portion of cooling air in the circuit after leaving the source.

The joined assembly further includes a connector with a first leg providing an electrically insulated mechanical point of contact relative to a bottom of the stacked winding. A second leg is electromechanically connected to the top of the stacked winding, and a third leg provides an electrically conductive path between the first and the second legs, wherein the stacked winding is captured by the connector to constitute such joined assembly, which is jointly movable in response to axial and/or radial forces that may develop during operation of the dynamoelectric machine.

A generator rotor lead path configuration includes a plurality of electrically conductive components attached to each other. These components may include a cleat and a wedge. The improved lead path inhibits, if not prevents, lead path failure. A method of assembling or fitting the lead path into a generator is also provided, as well as a method of replacing or retrofitting a lead path that is susceptible to failure with the improved lead path configuration. Assistance in determining causes of lead path failure and ways to overcome lead path failure are also provided.
