    摘要: Cathodic protection of a reinforced concrete structure utilizes a metal anode such as a zinc anode in combination with a pressure sensitive ionically conductive hydrogel in contact with at least a portion of the surface of the anode. Preferably, the anode and ionically conductive hydrogel are flexible and supplied in roll form. The combination may further include the addition of salt to the hydrogel as well as application to the metal-hydrogel combination of Type III cement. The cathodic protection may be carried out with or without a power source.

    摘要: The cathodic protection system of a concrete structure (22) uses sacrificial anodes such as zinc, aluminum and alloys thereof embedded in mortar. A humectant is employed to impart high ionic conductivity to the mortar in which the anode is encapsulated. Lithium nitrate and lithium bromide and combinations thereof are preferred as the humectant. The anode (10) is surrounded by a compressive, conductive matrix (12) incorporating a void volume between 15% and 50% to accommodate the sacrificial corrosion products of the anode. A void space of at least 5% of the total volume of the anode (12) may be provided opposite to the active face of the anode. Synthetic fibers such as polypropylene, polyethylene, cellulose, nylon and fiberglass have been found to be useful for forming the matrix. A tie wire is used to electrically connect the anode to the reinforcing bar.

    摘要: A hinge for an orthopedic splint has two plates hinged for pivotal movement relative to each other and a detent engageable for locking the plates at a selected angle to each other, and a spring urging the detent into engagement. The detent is protected in a recessed guideway against operation with the unaided hand to discourage tampering with the splint settings by the patient fitted with same, but is retractable with a pointed tool inserted in the recess or a removable screw threaded in the detent as a finger hold. The screw may also pass through the detent and if tightened against an underlying plate keeps the detent disengaged to facilitate adjustment of the splint. The hinge allows left and right hand angular settings of the splint to either side of a zero angle for ambidextrous use of the splint, and radial tabs with directional markings are provided as visual indicators of the angular setting of the splint hinge.

    摘要: A temperature sensor comprising a probe, infrared fibers, super-cooled detors and their associated electronics, and a computer for determining the temperature from the output of the electronics. Photons from a heat source are collected by the infrared fibers and transmitted to the detectors where they are amplified by the electronics. A voltage is then outputted which represents measured temperature. The voltage is sampled by the computer where it is converted to temperature by use of computer algorithms.

    摘要: Coiled valve metal mesh of great void fraction and lengthy dimension and having a continuum of interconnected metal strands is coated with an electrocatalytic coating from liquid composition. The coating operation proceeds by contacting the mesh with liquid coating composition while the mesh is maintained in coiled form. This highly efficient coating method is continued through a curing operation while further maintaining the coated mesh in coiled form. Pretreatment preceding coating operation, e.g., degreasing and etching, may also be accomplished without uncoiling of the mesh. The coated mesh can later be uncoiled and current distributors welded to it for use as an electrode, e.g., in cathodic protection.
