摘要: Publishing content using a peer-to-peer content distribution system is described. A publisher is required to request authorization to publish from an authorization body. Resources such as tracker and seed nodes are allocated in a peer-to-peer content distribution system and pre-processing of content to be published is carried out. For example, a content description is generated for each item of content as well as a set of checksums or other items for validating blocks of content. Publication can be terminated in a variety of different ways. For example, by using expiry methods, by active revocation of publishers, authorization bodies, or individual items of content.

摘要: The invention describes a control node for a content distribution network and a method of automatically verifying content distributed over a network at a node in the network. In the method, a content description is received which comprises a content identifier, a publisher identifier, publisher authorisation information and content checking information. The integrity and validity of this information are checked and if both the checks are passed, the content description is stored.

摘要: A topology management process is implemented in peer-to-peer content distribution clouds using tracker nodes. Tracker nodes have information about available peers and assist peers in finding other peers to connect to. Various algorithms for use at the tracker nodes are described for selecting which peers to return as potentials for forming connections to. In addition, architectures and algorithms to allow efficient scaling of tracker nodes in peer-to-peer clouds are described.

摘要: Systems and methods for improved streaming of variable bit rate multimedia content are described. The described systems and methods solve some streaming problems by streaming the variable bit rate content at a constant bit rate that is negotiated between a server and a client. As a result, a transmission channel from server to client is utilized in an efficient manner. If the client is able to buffer the streamed content (to a hard drive, for example) the content can be streamed at a rate that is significantly less than its peak bit rate, even at a rate that is less than its average bit rate.

摘要: Techniques enable locating a position within a file that corresponds to a desired seek time without having access to an index specifying the desired seek time's position. An iterative process may be used to estimate the position that corresponds to the desired seek time. The process may iterate through multiple estimations until a difference between a time corresponding to an estimated position and the desired seek time is within an acceptable amount or until the process reaches an iteration threshold. The file may then be played beginning at or near the desired seek time. The techniques may therefore allow a user to seek within a file while the user progressively downloads or streams the file.

摘要: A computing system, which is in communication with a multimedia source and that includes at least one application for processing multimedia content from the multimedia source, includes an Application Programming Interface (API) for obtaining basic multimedia information that may be required by applications to process the multimedia content. By doing this, the invention enables multimedia application(s) to easily obtain the basic information from the API in a predetermined and standard manner, without having to obtain the information directly from the multimedia source, thereby reducing the functionality that has to be programmed directly into the application(s) for obtaining the basic information, and thereby reducing the cost, time, and resources that are required for creating the multimedia application(s).

摘要: Media processing methods, systems and application program interfaces (APIs) are described. In but one embodiment, a media engine component, also referred to as a media engine, provides a simple and unified way of rendering media from an origin to a destination of choice without requiring intimate knowledge about the underlying components, their connectivity and management. Clients of the media engine need not worry about how to render the particular media, but rather can simply focus on what media to render and where to render the media. In at least one embodiment, a media session is provided and is encapsulated by the media engine and provides a mechanism by which additional components are made transparent to the application and, in at least some embodiment, the media engine. In some embodiments, the media engine and media session provide a simple API for building, configuring, and manipulating a pipeline of components (e.g. media sources, transforms, and sinks) for media flow control between an origin and one or more destinations.
