Abstract: A method of distinguishing, from a moving platform, stationary objects from moving objects. The method includes using a first detector mounted to the moving platform to obtain at least a first reading from a target area, advancing the moving platform relative to the target area and using a second detector mounted to said moving platform to obtain at least a second reading from said target area. Then, the method includes comparing said first and second readings for at least two different time intervals to distinguish moving objects from stationary objects.

Abstract: The invention relates to a leaky cable intrusion detection system comprising a pair of spaced, parallel, buried, leaky coaxical cables. A radio frequency signal is applied to one of the cables, whereby an electromagnetic field outside said one cable is established, and a radio frequency signal from the field penetrates and is received from the other of the cables whereby disturbances in said field can be detected. The cables are spaced apart a distance such that they are intermediately coupled, being coupled to a greater degree than loosely coupled and to a laser degree than tightly coupled. In the preferred embodiment a longitudinal shield is spaced from and is below the cables. By varying the spacing between the cables and the shield, variations in field shape and sensitivity of the system can be substantially reduced.

Abstract: A thermal emitted radiation detecting device is configured to detect objects in visual blind spots of a vehicle. A low cost differential detector is used which is sensitive to temperature change. Optics train two different fields of view on the detector and switch between the two fields of view to provide a blind spot field of view and a reference field of view. The presence of a vehicle in the blind spot field of view results in a temperature difference between the two fields of view. The resulting detector output signal is compared to predetermined threshold levels and then used to provide an indication, either visual or audible. Several embodiments of optics and switching fields of view are provided.

Abstract: A method of producing a leakage graded coaxial cable having a braided shield, in which ends of the shield wire are dropped as braiding progresses. Gaps in the shield having progressively increasing size are produced through which the radio frequency field leakage occurs, which facilitates providing a constant radio frequency field around the cable. The cable is coated with a jell flooding agent prior to extrusion of its protection jacket, which fills the interstices and gaps of the shield, and solidifies to a waxy, semi-resilient consistency. The resulting cable can be coiled and flexed, maintaining its shield reliability, and rejects water and fluids in case pinholes in the jacket occur.

Abstract: Disclosed is an automatic video intrusion detection system. The system monitors a given area such as between two parallel fences. The image of the given area is divided into an array of cells each approximately equal in size to the image of a man. The video for each cell is integrated, digitized and stored in an array. Changes in cell values are detected and tracked so that changes in, say, 3 adjacent cells in a given direction, indicate an intruder. A microcomputer implements a tracking algorithm. Filtering discriminates against light level changes. The system is simpler than a known one which analyzes grey values of thousands of points in a video field.
