    摘要: Systems, devices and methods are disclosed for treating fractures. The systems, devices and methods may include one or both of an implant, such as an intramedullary nail, and a fastening assembly, such as a lag screw and a compression screw assembly. The implant in some embodiments has a proximal section with a transverse aperture and a cross-section that may be shaped to more accurately conform to the anatomical shape of cortical bone and to provide additional strength and robustness in its lateral portions, preferably without requiring significant additional material. The fastening assembly may be received to slide, in a controlled way, in the transverse aperture of the implant. In some embodiments, the engaging member and the compression device are configured so that the compression device interacts with a portion of the implant and a portion of the engaging member to enable controlled movement between the first and second bone fragments. This configuration is useful for, among other things, compressing a fracture.

    摘要: An intramedullary nail apparatus includes an elongated nail body having a longer section and a shorter section. A detachable connection affixes the larger and shorter sections together end to end, using a taper lock connection, for example. The shorter section can provide transverse openings therethrough for enabling one or more fasteners to attach it to bone tissue, depending upon the medical indication. The nail includes a bow that consists of two tangent radii. This bow allows for the anterior bow of the femur and the relative straightness of the tibia. Thus, the apparatus of the present invention enables the same stems to be used in the treatment of femoral and tibial fractures. A stem is selected for any indication based on the desired diameter and length. The bow allows for a simplified surgical technique and a reduction in inventory of the nail system.

    摘要: A minimally invasive reaming assembly for creating an entry portal into the canal of a bone and for providing a working channel in which to ream the canal of a bone. The assembly includes a sleeve, a housing and an inner reamer. The sleeve is an elongated cylindrically-shaped hollow sleeve that has a proximal and a distal end, with the distal end having a plurality of cutting blades. The housing is attached to the sleeve and is generally cylindrical in shape and it has a top portion, a bottom portion and a through bore. The top portion includes a releasable locking mechanism for engaging the inner reamer within the housing. The inner reamer has an elongated cannulated body and proximal and distal ends. The distal end has a rotatable reaming head and the proximal end has a drill shaft and a connector for connection to a drill. A portion of the body includes an annular collar with a tab for engaging a notch in the housing. The reamer is sized and shaped for insertion through the bore of the housing and the sleeve. The reaming assembly is configured to create an entry portal into the canal of a bone and to provide a working channel in which a plurality of reamers of graduated sizes are inserted for progressively reaming the canal of a bone.
