摘要: An improved foot orthotic is disclosed which includes an L-shaped boot and a sole plate which mat be mounted to the boot using a bracket disposed in a recessed arch portion of the boot. Typically, a projection extends from the sole plate into the bracket. The projection may extend into a slot and may have an enlarged head which nests in a recess in the bracket. The sole plate may be removed by withdrawing the projection from the bracket. Preferably, the bracket is recessed so that when the wearer of the orthotic walks, the bracket does not touch the walking surface. A toe plate may also be used in conjunction with the boot. The toe plate may be mounted to the bracket independently of the sole plate. In one embodiment, the toe plate includes two arms separated by a slot. The two arms embrace a portion of the bracket. Mating ribs and recesses on the bracket and toe plate arms retain the toe plate in the desired position.

摘要: A method and apparatus is disclosed for sensing when a person is disposed on or arises from a support that flexes or sags when a person is disposed thereon. Such supports include beds, supports for a mattress or a seat, such as a sling-type seat found on wheelchairs. In one embodiment, an assembly is positioned beneath the support and includes a sensor. The sensor indicates when tension on the assembly exceeds a certain amount which is indicative of sagging of the support. The assembly may be adjustable in length to maintain proper tension in the absence of sag. The sensor may be a switch that includes a plunger which operates against the bias of a biasing member which either completes or interrupts an electrical circuit in response to tension placed on the assembly due to sagging of the support. In another embodiment, the assembly may be at least partially elastic. In yet another embodiment, a strain gauge may be employed to detect stretching of the assembly due to sagging of the support. In the method of the invention, a signal received from the sensor may be employed either with or without a processor to activate an alarm or to activate a light or to activate another audible signal or to send a signal over a telephone line. In addition, the signal received may be used to activate or deactivate a brake on a wheelchair.

摘要: Distractor straps for use with distractor apparatuses are disclosed. In one embodiment, a distractor strap includes a cinch strap having a free end and a second end. The second end of the cinch strap includes an adjustment mechanism receiving the free end of the cinch strap such that the cinch strap forms a closed loop. A diameter of the closed loop is adjustable with the adjustment mechanism. The distractor strap further includes a cross strap comprising a first loop, a second loop, and strapping connecting the first loop and the second loop. The cinch strap is positioned in the first loop and the second loop such that the cross strap extends across the diameter of the closed loop formed by the cinch strap and the cross strap and the cinch strap are slidable with respect to one another.

摘要: The present invention comprises the provision and use of a novel retainer which is slidably advanced to a desired fixation position within a bone tunnel, fixed in position within the bone tunnel (preferably by wedging and/or pinning) while applying a lateral force against the graft ligament so as to compressively hold the graft ligament against the sidewall of the bone tunnel, and which then, optionally, has the graft ligament secured thereto with a cap, whereby to secure the graft ligament to the retainer and hence additionally to the host bone. The present invention also comprises the provision and use of a novel retainer which is slidably advanced to a desired fixation position within a bone tunnel so as to apply a lateral force against the graft ligament so as to compressively hold the graft ligament against the sidewall of the bone tunnel, and which is then locked to the host bone as the graft ligament is simultaneously secured to the retainer, whereby to secure the graft ligament to the retainer and hence additionally to the host bone.

摘要: Embodiments of low profile distractor apparatuses are disclosed. The distractor apparatuses generally comprise a mounting body, a tensioning mechanism coupled to the mounting body and a distractor arm coupled to the tensioning mechanism and pivotally coupled to the mounting body for rotation relative to the mounting body. The tensioning axis of the tensioning mechanism is non-coaxial with an effector axis of the distractor arm and a distraction force applied with the distractor arm is translated to the effector axis. This enables the distractor apparatus to be positioned relative to a patient such that the tensioning mechanism is offset from the long axis of the limb of the patient thereby facilitating improved access to the distal portions of the limb.

摘要: An apparatus and method for treating plantar fasciitis are disclosed. In one embodiment of the apparatus, a dorsal splint device includes an upper portion and a foot portion which are pivotally connected to one another. A strap allows attachment of the upper portion to a suitable portion of the leg, such as the calf. The foot portion is typically attached to the foot by use of a strap. A tensioning element, such as a shock cord, urges the foot portion and the upper portion toward one another. The tension provided by the tensioning element may be adjusted by adjusting the length of the tensioning element. In the method of the present invention, the tensioning element may be first unhooked to allow pivoting of the foot portion with respect to the upper portion so that the device may be attached to a user. The upper portion is attached to the calf, while the lower portion is attached to the foot. The tensioning element is then hooked to the device at the appropriate position to provide the desired tension urging the foot portion toward the upper portion.

摘要: A system for heating and dispensing foam-in-bag packaging bags comprises a housing that rotatably supports a roll of a continuous web of interconnected foam-in-bag packaging bags, and at least one heater for heating bags to an elevated temperature prior to the bags being dispensed from the housing. A heated bag is dispensed and is detached from the web, and is then manipulated to mix foam precursor chemicals contained in separate compartments in the bag to begin a foam-forming reaction in the bag.

摘要: An apparatus, system, and method for dispensing fluid into containers includes a cleaning mechanism that brings the discharge nozzle of a dispenser into the travel path of a film web so that the end-face can make contact with the film web to remove from the end-face at least a portion of any fluid or reaction-products of the fluid that may be in adherence with the end-face. A film for removing such fluid or reaction-products from the end-face of the dispenser is also provided.
