Abstract: A method of acidizing a subterranean geological formation by injecting an emulsified acid into a wellbore, wherein the emulsified acid includes at least an aqueous phase comprising a hydrochloric acid solution, an oil phase comprising waste oil, and an emulsifier, and wherein the waste oil contains 45-75% by weight of aromatic compounds and preferably contains less than 0.5% by weight of non-hydrocarbon compounds. Various embodiments, and combinations of embodiments, of the emulsified acid and the method of acidizing are provided.

Abstract: A silane-modified colloidal silica in the form of a Pickering emulsion and a method for enhancing recovery of hydrocarbons and improving conformance using it. When injected into an oil well, the silane-modified colloidal silica separates into an aqueous phase and oil/oleic phase. The aqueous phase forms a gel that blocks the flow of water and the oleic phase that forms permits oil to flow out of the well.

Abstract: A process for recovering oil from a carbonate reservoir of high salinity, wherein supercritical CO2 floodings are combined with a fluorosurfactant in the tertiary recovery. Embodiments include alternating injection and co-injection schemes of the supercritical CO2 and the fluorosurfactant. A stable fluorosurfactant-CO2 foam that is not susceptible to the harsh conditions of the reservoir (temperature, pressure and salinity) can be successfully generated, leading to a reduction in the mobility of CO2, an increase in the mobility of the reservoir oil, higher contact between the injected fluid with the oil and a better sweep efficiency of the oil.

Abstract: The invention concerns synthesized amido-amine-based cationic gemini surfactants with flexible and rigid spacers and different hydrophobic. These gemini surfactants were prepared by modified procedure through amidation of long chain carboxylic acids using 3-(dimethylamino)-1-propylamine followed by treatment with halohydrocarbons and showed excellent thermal stability and surface properties useful for various oilfield applications such as enhanced oil recovery.

Abstract: A method of inhibiting carbon dioxide (CO2) hydrate formation in a CO2 pipeline is described. The method includes injecting a composition including monoethylene glycol carbon quantum dots (MEG CQDs) into the CO2 pipeline to deposit the MEG CQDs on an inside surface of the CO2 pipeline. The method further includes pressurizing the CO2 pipeline with a gas stream containing CO2 and water vapor at a pressure of 200-2,000 pounds per square inch (psi). The MEG CQDs are present on the inside surface of the CO2 pipeline in an amount effective to reduce the formation of CO2 hydrates in the CO2 pipeline during the pressurizing in comparison to the formation of the CO2 hydrates in the CO2 pipeline under the same conditions but in the absence of the MEG CQDs.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a system and method for applying a prediction of permeability of shale gas in porous media at different pressure conditions to a shale gas production. The method uses a molecular model that accounts for slippage and adsorption effects under the different pressure conditions including simulated gas flows in a large computational domain representing a sample of shale rock. This system and method provides a computationally efficient processing to determine permeability variations of shale gas with the different pressure conditions.
