    Abstract: A resin composition that enables formation of a film superior in cold water solubility, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance is provided. The resin composition comprises a modified PVA comprising a monomer unit represented by formula (I), and an amine compound represented by formula (II): a content of the amine compound with respect to 100 parts by mass of the modified PVA being from 0.01 parts by mass to 1 part by mass. In the formula (I), R1 represents a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms; and R2 represents —R3—SO3−X+, —R3—N+(R4)3Cl−, or a hydrogen atom, R3 representing an alkanediyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, X+ representing a hydrogen atom, a metal atom, or an ammonium group, and R4 representing a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms. In the formula (II), R5 represents —R3′—SO3−X+′, —R3′—N+(R4′)3Cl−, or a hydrogen atom.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a mold release film that is to be placed between a stock solution that serves as a raw material for artificial marble and a shaping apparatus when the stock solution is fed to the shaping apparatus, and then solidified and molded. The mold release film is a polyvinyl alcohol film and is characterized by being a polyvinyl alcohol mold release film for artificial marble molding use that satisfies the following formula (1). Due to this, it is possible to provide a polyvinyl alcohol mold release film for artificial marble molding use capable of, even in the production of wide artificial marble, suppressing wrinkles or curls generated at both end parts to prevent the surface shape of the resulting artificial marble from being defective, and simplifying the step of grinding and polishing artificial marble, and a method for producing artificial marble using the same. 4.6×10−3≥Δn(MD)0−1.4×10−3≥Δn(TD)0≥1.0×10−3  (1) in the formula (1), Δn(MD)0 represents a value determined from a birefringence index of the polyvinyl alcohol mold release film in the machine direction at the center part of the transverse direction of the film by averaging the birefringence index along the thickness direction of the film, and Δn(TD)0 represents a value determined from a birefringence index of the polyvinyl alcohol mold release film in the transverse direction at the center part of the transverse direction of the film by averaging the birefringence index along the thickness direction of the film.

    Abstract: Provided are a single-layered hydraulic transfer printing base film, including 1.5 to 15 parts by mass of a plate or needle filler with an average particle diameter of from 2 to 14 μm and an aspect ratio of from 4 to 60 based on 100 parts by mass of polyvinyl alcohol and a method of producing a hydraulic transfer printing base film, including forming a film using a liquid containing 1.5 to 15 parts by mass of a plate or needle filler with an average particle diameter of from 2 to 14 μm and an aspect ratio of from 4 to 60 based on 100 parts by mass of polyvinyl alcohol. A hydraulic transfer printing base film that is not easily broken when fed from a roll and a method of producing the base film are thus provided.

    Abstract: A modified PVA that enables formation of a film superior in cold water solubility, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance is provided. The modified PVA comprises a monomer unit represented by formula (I), and a structural unit represented by formula (II): wherein: a content of the monomer unit (I) is from 0.05 mol % to 10 mol %, and a content of the structural unit (II) is from 0.001 mol % to 0.5 mol % with respect to the total monomer units in the modified PVA; a viscosity average degree of polymerization is from 300 to 3,000; and a degree of saponification is from 82 mol % to 99.5 mol %. In the formula (I): R1 represents a hydrogen atom, or a methyl group; and R2 represents —R3—SO3−X+, —R3—N+(R4)3Cl−, or a hydrogen atom, R3 representing an alkanediyl group, X+ representing a hydrogen atom, a metal atom, or an ammonium group, and R4 representing an alkyl group.
