Abstract: Provided is a flame-retardant fiber having improved light resistance and/or colorability. The flame-retardant fiber is a fiber including a fiber-forming polymer. The fiber-forming polymer contains a polymer blend comprising a polyetherimide polymer (A) and a thermoplastic polymer (B) having a glass transition temperature lower than that of the polymer (A); and the fiber-forming polymer further contains a functional additive (C) that provides light resistance, colorability, or both of light resistance and colorability. The mass ratio (A)/(B) of the polymer (A) to the polymer (B) is from 50/50 to 90/10, and the content of the functional additive (C) is from 0.5 to 10% by mass relative to 100% by mass of the total mass (A+B+C) of the polymer (A), the thermoplastic polymer (B), and the functional additive (C).

Abstract: Provided are a melt blown (MB) nonwoven fabric, a laminate using the same, a method of producing a melt blown nonwoven fabric as well as a melt blowing apparatus. A melt blowing apparatus 100 includes a die 10 configured to discharge a resin melt 42 with an accompanying jet to give fiber materials, a hollow cover 20, and a collector 60. The fiber materials 50 from the die 10 are heated to a temperature equal to or higher than a crystallization temperature of crystalline thermoplastic resin inside the hollow cover 20 and collected on a collecting surface 62 of the collector 60. The hollow cover 20 and the collector 60 are separated by a distance of 5 cm or longer between a lower edge 28 of the hollow cover 20 and the collecting surface 62 in a line extending downwardly from the nozzle holes 12 in a vertical direction.

Abstract: Provided is a polyetherimide-based fiber containing a polyetherimide resin and carbon black dispersed in the resin, wherein the content of the carbon black is 0.03 wt % or greater; the carbon black has a primary particle number-mean particle size of from 30 nm to 500 nm; and the fiber has a weight reduction rate of less than 0.5% around the glass transition point (Tg) of the polyetherimide resin, where the weight reduction rate is defined by a following formula (1). Weight reduction rate (%)={[(fiber weight at temperature T1)−(fiber weight at temperature T2)]/(fiber weight at temperature T1)}×100 (1) Where T1 denotes a temperature (Tg−15° C.) that is 15° C. lower than the glass transition point (glass transition temperature) of the polyetherimide resin, and T2 denotes a temperature (Tg+25° C.) that is 25° C. higher than the glass transition point.
