Abstract: In a sheet conveyance device, if a sheet has not been detected at a second position when a predetermined time has elapsed since the sheet has been detected at a first position, a separating portion switches operation thereof from a separating operation to a non-separating operation of conveying the sheet from upstream to downstream in a sheet conveyance path, and a sheet feed portion continues a feeding operation. If the sheet has not been detected at the second position by the time a predetermined time has elapsed since the separating portion has started the non-separating operation, the separating portion and the sheet feed portion stop driving, and if the sheet has been detected at the second position by the time, the separating portion switches operation thereof from the non-separating operation to the separating operation, and the sheet feed portion continues the feeding operation.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a document tray, a common transport route, a curved transport route, a linear transport route, a switching device, a document transport device, a first image sensor, a second image sensor, a trailing edge detector, a multi feed detector, a leading edge detector, and a controller. The controller determines a length of the document in the transport direction, on a basis of a time point that the leading edge detector has detected the leading edge of the document, a time point that the trailing edge detector has detected the trailing edge of the document, and a time point that a detection status of the multi feed detector has been switched to a non-detection state, and guides the document to the curved transport route or the linear transport route from the common transport route, according to the length of the document, by controlling the switching device.

Abstract: A sheet conveyance mechanism in the present disclosure has a feeding portion, a pair of registration rollers, a first sensor, a second sensor, and a conveyance control portion. The feeding portion has a drive roller. The registration rollers are disposed in a downstream side of the feeding portion. The first and second sensors detect presence of a sheet. If after a sheet is detected by the first sensor, the sheet is not detected by the second sensor by a time when a first period elapses, the conveyance control portion starts a slowdown of a rotation speed of the drive roller. If the sheet is detected by the second sensor by a time when a second period elapses after the slowdown of the rotation speed of the drive roller starts, the conveyance control portion returns the rotation speed of the drive roller to a rotation speed before the slowdown.

Abstract: Conveyance modes include a registration mode accompanied with skew correction and a registrationless mode unaccompanied with skew correction. When a jam occurs, the controller interrupts a job, and invokes blank-feed processing starting from a state with all sheets re-set. On invoking blank-feed processing, the controller checks the conveyance mode and recognizes the number of jams. Abstract: A paper feed device includes a paper tray, a set-state sensor, a paper feed unit, and a control unit. The control unit checks an output from the set-state sensor each time before the start of the intermittent paper feed. In the case where no paper feed is detected even after the prescribed number of times of the intermittent paper feed, the control unit determines that a non-feed jam has occurred. In the case where it is detected that there is no paper on the paper tray before the number of repetition of the intermittent paper feed reaches the prescribed number of times, the control unit causes the paper feed unit to terminate the retry processing and determines that, with no paper on the paper tray, it is not the non-feed jam.

Abstract: A document conveying device includes a document tray, a first rotary member, a first motor, a second rotary member, a second motor, a document feed sensor, and a controller. The controller counts a counted time from the time point that the first motor starts to rotate until the leading end of a document reaches the document feed sensor. When the time resulting from subtracting the counted time from a required sheet-to-sheet time interval is longer than the required speed change time, the controller performs deceleration and post-deceleration acceleration for the first motor. The required speed change time is the time required for speed change from the first rotation speed to the second rotation speed.
