To restrict a potential oscillation in a video line caused by a high speed sampling rate, the active matrix display device is comprised of gate lines X in row, signal lines Y in column and liquid crystal pixels LC of matrix arranged at each of the crossing points of both lines. The V driver 1 scans in sequence each of the gate lines X and selects the liquid crystal pixels LC in one line for every one horizontal period. The H driver 4 performs a sampling of the video signal VSIG for each of the signal lines Y and performs a writing of the video signal VSIG in the liquid crystal pixels LC in one selected line within one horizontal period. The precharging means 5 supplies the predetermined precharging signal VPS to each of the signal lines Y just before writing the video signal VSIG for the liquid crystal pixels LC in one line. With such an arrangement as above, it is possible to reduce the charging or discharging amount in each of the signal lines Y when the video signal VSIG is sampled and further to restrict the potential oscillation in the video line 2.

Vertical scanners sequentially scan each gate line during one vertical period, and select one row of liquid-crystal pixels. A horizontal scanner samples video signal for each signal line, and writes the video signal in the one row of liquid-crystal pixels selected within one horizontal period. A voltage applying means applies to each signal line a voltage equal to or less than the minimum level of the video signal in one horizontal period excluding a time assigned for writing the video signal in one row of liquid-crystal pixels. The repeated application of the voltage during one vertical period approximately equalizes signal leakages from all the pixels, whereby vertical crosstalk can be suppressed.

A liquid crystal display device of the active matrix type which prevents residual of charge in liquid crystal picture elements with respect to time. The active matrix liquid crystal display device includes liquid crystal picture elements formed from a liquid crystal layer held between picture element electrodes arranged in a matrix and common electrodes opposing to the picture element electrodes, and picture element transistors corresponding to the liquid crystal picture elements. While a predetermined reference potential is supplied to the common electrode, image signals are applied to the individual picture element electrodes by way of signal lines and picture element transistors to effect ac driving of the liquid crystal picture elements. Discharge means for connecting the common electrodes and the picture element electrodes to an equivalent potential to each other is provided to discharge the charge remaining in the liquid crystal picture elements thereby to prevent the variation of the reference potential.

A precharge means is included as a characteristic requisite, wherein a first precharge signal is supplied simultaneously to the entire signal lines during a blanking period which precedes the horizontal scanning period, and further a second precharge signal is supplied sequentially to the signal lines prior to the step of sequentially sampling the actual video signal to the signal lines during each horizontal scanning period. This device is capable of preventing potential fluctuation that may otherwise be caused on a signal line by dot-sequential driving.

The invention provide a display apparatus of a plural pixel simultaneous driving system wherein sample and hold noise included in a video signal is removed before the video signal is supplied to a display panel. A video signal processing circuit operates in response to a timing signal supplied from an external timing signal source, and delays an input video signal supplied thereto from an external video signal source to produce an output video signal. The video signal processing circuit includes a first sample and hold circuit, a second sample and hold circuit and a differential circuit. The first sample and hold circuit repetitively samples and holds the input video signal in response to the timing signal. The second sample and hold circuit repetitively samples and holds a predetermined reference signal in response to the same timing signal. The differential circuit differentially processes the input video signal after it has been sampled and held and the reference signal after it has been sampled and held to produce an output video signal from which sample and hold noise synchronized with the timing signal has been removed.

The shift register includes a level shift circuit and a sampling latch circuit These circuits may be incorporated into a single scanning type structural circuit with the drive circuit-integrated LCD device to provide an LCD panel with a narrow picture frame, stable level shift operation, stable sampling & latch operation in a circuit having an extremely small number of components, low power consumption and a small surface area.
