    摘要: A support structure implant for location within a bone cavity to support the bone which defines the cavity is formed from wires by braiding in a machine direction from a first end of the structure towards an opposite second end. The wires are formed into loops at the first end of the structure so that two lengths of wire extend away from each loop and a reformed into the braid. Each of the wires which is formed into the braid is held at the second end of the structure in a clamp. The clamp is provided by a support ring and a clamp ring which is formed from a shape memory alloy which can shrink to clamp the wires against the support ring when heated.

    摘要: An instrument for positioning a cup component of an orthopaedic joint prosthesis includes a shaft, a housing attached to the distal end of the shaft, at least two flange portions carried on the shaft on which the cup component can be fixed, and a unitary spring element disposed about the shaft axis and disposed between the at least two flange portions and the axis of the shaft. The housing includes a base plate and extends from the shaft transversely relative to the shaft axis. The at least two flange portions can move relative to the base plate in a direction transverse to the shaft axis between an in-use position, where at least a portion of each of the at least two flange portions contacts the inner surface of the cup component, and a retracted position where the at least a portion of each of the at least two flange portions is moved towards the shaft axis so as to allow the cup component to be released from the instrument. The spring element biases each of the at least two flange portions towards the in-use position.

This invention, in one embodiment, provides an edible adhesive coating comprising a source of edible fat, a hygroscopic food powder, and optionally an emulsifier. In specific embodiments, the hygroscopic food powder is a dietary fiber, such as polydextrose, and the emulsifier is lecithin. The source of edible fat can be any typical source, including compound coatings and chocolate coatings. Other embodiments of the present invention provide methods to make edible adhesive coatings, methods to make food products using edible adhesive coatings, and food products comprising edible adhesive coatings.

    摘要: A method of aligning an alignment guide relative to a reamed acetabulum of a patient is provided. The method includes the step of manipulating an alignment guide comprising a shaft having a longitudinal axis and a guide arm having a first portion, a second portion and a third portion, the first portion attached to the shaft and configured to be rotatable about a first axis substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, the second portion extending from the first portion at a first predetermined angle along a second axis, and the third portion extending from the second portion at a second predetermined angle. The guide arm is rotated about the first axis relative to the shaft. A cup or trial is attached to the distal end of the shaft and positioned to contact the reamed acetabulum. The third portion of the guide arm is then oriented with respect to the long axis of the patient and the surface of the table on which the patient is positioned.
