A swash plate type compressor includes a cylinder blocks having a crank case which communicates with a suction port and a plurality of bores formed therein. The ends of each bore are covered with a pair of housings. The bores communicate with discharge chambers. A drive shaft is rotatably placed within the cylinder blocks. A swash plate is rotatable in the crank case, and is mounted on the drive shaft. A plurality of pistons are drivably coupled to the swash plate, and are reciprocotable in their respective bores. As the pistons reciprocate, a refrigerant in the crank case is sucked into each bore and is compressed therein. The compressed refrigerant is discharged into the discharge chambers from the bores. A passage for transporting the refrigerant between the discharge chambers is formed along the axis of the drive shaft. Seals are provided between the cylinder blocks and the drive shaft for sealing the gap between the discharge chambers and the crank case.

A wave cam type compressor is described. Cylindroid blocks are provided to support a drive shaft and to contain a plurality of cylinder bores centered around the drive shaft. A wave cam attached to the drive shaft has cam surfaces on the front side and the rear side. The cam surfaces are composed of convex surfaces only. Pistons in the cylindroid blocks are operated by the wave cam through shoes. Each shoe has a spherical surface and a flat surface. The spherical surface is fitted in a recess formed on the piston, while the flat surface makes line contact with the cam surface of the wave cam. The shoes move relative to the wave cam on a predetermined circular path on the cam surfaces. The rotation of the wave cam together with the drive shaft is converted to reciprocating motions of the pistons in the cylinder bores with the aid of the shoes and wave cam, thus achieving compression of a fluid supplied to the cylinder bores.

A compressor comprises a cylinder block having cylinder bores formed radially spaced from and circumferentially distributed equidistantly about the cylinder longitudinal axis. Pistons are slidably received in the respective bores for reciprocation therein executing alternately suction and discharge strokes. The compressor also has a discharge valve assembly for controlling discharge of a compressed fluid from each of the bores into a discharge chamber, which assembly is axially movable between a first position in which the assembly is abutted against an end wall of the block and a second position in which the assembly is spaced from the end wall of the block to define a narrow space therebetween to interconnect the bores with each other. When the assembly is pushed toward the second position by the pressure of the compressed fluid during initial running of the compressor, bypass channels interconnect the cylinder with the discharge chamber.

Integral rotation of the drive shaft 13 and the wave cam 17 reciprocates each piston 16 in the cylinder bores 11a, 12a via the shoes. The centers Q1, Q2 of each spherical surface orbits outside of the circumference C1 on the associated cam surface 17A, 17B.

The refrigerant is discharged into the external refrigerating circuit through the front and rear discharge chambers, .and the front and rear discharge ports. A discharge passage is provided within the drive shaft, and interconnects the front and rear discharge chambers. A valve is provided at one end of the discharge passage to control the opening of the discharge port in relation to the pressure difference between the front and rear discharge chambers.
