    摘要: An optical regeneration system for regenerating a degenerated signal light, comprising a regeneration device having at least one of a soliton converter, a pulse roller, a Kerr-shutter and a soliton purifier. The solilton converter uses an anomalaous-dispersion fiber (ADF) having a fiber length up to three times the soliton frequency, and the pulse roller is provided with a pulse roller fiber having high non-linear characteristics. The Kerr-shutter comprises an optical LO (local oscillation) generator for generating an optical LO on an OPLL (optical phase locked loop), a phase comparator for detecting the phase difference between an externally-input signal light and an optical LO, and a control unit for regulating the repeated frequency of an optical LO based on the phase difference. The soliton purifier has a soliton fiber disposed between two optical fibers.

      摘要: An optical signal amplifier comprises a light source, a depolarizer, and a gain medium that transfers energy from a pump beam output from the depolarizer to the optical signal. The depolarizer may comprise one or more birefringent optical fibers which support two polarization modes, a fast mode and a slow mode. The light propagates in the fast mode at a higher velocity than the light propagates in the slow mode so as to impart phase delay as the light propagates in the birefringent optical fibers, thereby at least partially depolarizing the beam.

      摘要: An optical signal amplifier includes a light source, a depolarizer, and a gain medium that transfers energy from a pump beam output from the depolarizer to the optical signal. The depolarizer may include one or more birefringent optical fibers which support two polarization modes, a fast mode and a slow mode. The light propagates in the fast mode at a higher velocity than the light propagates in the slow mode so as to impart phase delay as the light propagates in the birefringent optical fibers, thereby at least partially depolarizing the beam. A method for using the amplifier with different types of transmission fibers enables the matching of depolarizers with relatively high percentage of degree of polarization, depending on fiber type, while staying below polarization dependent gain requirements.

The fiber may comprise three or more segments of fiber having alternating highly dispersive and highly nonlinear characteristics. The optical loop mirror construction splits an input pulse into two portions that propagate through the CDPF in opposite directions. The pulse portions are re-combined, and a compressed pulse with reduced noise is produced.
