摘要： In response to data supplied from a system controller, a display microcomputer of a television receiver produces a display in a sub-screen of the cathode-ray tube of a main menu corresponding to the numerous operating functions of which the television receiver is capable. Some of these functions include a picture-in-picture function, a satellite broadcast receiving function, and a picture-recording reservation function. When a user of the television receiver selects an item on the main menu corresponding to the picture-in-picture function by using a remote controller, the system controller controls an audio video switch, the picture-in-picture circuit, and a display microcomputer to provide two picture-in-picture sub-screens displayed simultaneously. One sub-screen contains a sub-screen menu to enable the user to set parameters relative to the picture displayed in the other sub-screen.

摘要： [Object]To make it possible for the reception side to carry out an optimum process for an image signal (image data) depending upon the type of a content.[Solving Means]An AV system 40 composed of an HD recorder 41 and a display unit 42 uses a communication interface of the HDMI. An HDMI source 53 of the HD recorder 41 transmits image data (image signal) in the form of differential signals to an HDMI sink 61 of the display unit 42 through three TMDS channels. The HDMI source 53 inserts content identification information for the identification of the type of a content of image data to be transmitted into an AVI InfoFrame packet placed in a blanking period. A control section 64 of the display unit 42 controls operation of a display processing section 62 which carries out a process for displaying for the image data based on the content identification information (ITC, CT1 and CT0) received by the HDMI sink 61 and a display section 63 for displaying an image.

摘要： A display microcomputer displays a menu corresponding to several functions, such as picture-in-picture display and satellite broadcast reception on a mini-viewing screen that is part of the cathode-ray tube picture screen of a television receiver. A remote controller permits selection of different video and audio signal sources and, if the user selects sources that are incompatible or inconsistent, a system controller returns the menu to the condition prior to the incorrect selection. The system controller also controls a display microcomputer in such a way that items on the menu that are inhibited from selection are displayed in halftone. That is, if any inhibited item appears in the menu by a modification of the mode of operation, the display microcomputer is controlled so that the menu is returned to the condition prior to the selection and the inhibited item is displayed in halftone. For example, erroneous operation that would change the reproduced sound of a duplex sound channel while the user is watching a picture reproduced from a video tape recorder is prevented, because the set value for the duplex sound can not be varied by the user.

Control data are periodically transmitted from a system controller 41 connected over an I.sup.2 bus for operating the functional devices, such as a video processing circuit 33 or an audio processing circuit 37. The functional devices are checked for malfunctions at each control cycle of transmitting the control data from the system controller to the functional devices for collectively displaying the checked results of malfunctions of the functional devices during the self-diagnostic mode operation.

摘要： A television receiver capable of displaying the condition, i.e., ON or OFF, of the power supply which supplies electric power to an external BS (broadcasting satellite) reception converter, together with the reception level at the BS antenna. The level at the antenna is detected by a level detector circuit (27) according to the output from a BS tuner (23) and displayed on the CRT (36). A power supply circuit (20) which supplies electric power to the external BS converter is switched on by a power switch (46). A system controller (41) detects the condition of this power switch and displays this condition together with the antenna reception level.
