A dental filling material capable of forming a cured product with improved physical properties comprises a polymerizable monomer to be polymerized upon application, characterized in that the polymerizable monomer comprises a reaction product of two moles of a compound selected from the group consisting of hydroxyalkyl diacrylates and hydroxyalkyl dimethacrylates with on mole of an organic diisocyanate alone or in admixture with another polymerizable monomer. The reaction product may be bis(1,3-dimethacryloyloxy-2-propanetriyl)-N,N'-hexamethylene dicarbamate or bis(1,3-diacryloyloxy-2-propanetriyl)-N,N'-hexamethylene dicarbamate. The reaction product may be used in admixture with trimethylolpropane triacrylate and/or trimethacrylate and (mono-, di- or tri-)ethylene glycol diacrylate and/or dimethacrylate. The reaction product may also be used in admixture with bis-oxyethylenic bisphenol-A diacrylate and/or dimethacrylate and (mono-, di- or tri-)ethylene glycol diacrylate and/or dimethacrylate.

In an ophthalmic solution comprising an antimicrobial preservative having a quaternary ammonium type cationic group, there are blended a cyclodextrin, EDTA or its salt, and boric acid and/or borax. The solution has an excellent antimicrobial activity and is effective for inhibiting the antimicrobial preservative from adsorbing to contact lenses. It can be instilled to eyes with contact lenses on.

A self-hardenable material comprising a calcium phosphate having an atomic ratio of Ca/P of 1.4 to 1.6, a difficultly water-soluble inorganic fluoride, an organic or inorganic acid and water is provided. For example, when the hardenable material is frilled in the form of slurry or paste in a necessary part in vivo or in the dental cavity, it hardens within a short time to form a stable apatite type product.

Novel compounds used as polymerizable monomers in a dental adhesive composition, and having a general formula (1): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.2 is a carboxyl group and R.sup.3 is a hydrogen atom when R.sup.1 is a methyl group, and R.sup.2 is a hydroxyl group and R.sup.3 is a carboxyl group when R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom, that is, N-methyl-N-(2-hydroxy-3-methacryloyloxypropyl)-m-aminobenzoic acid and 2-hydroxy-4-[(2-hydroxy-3-methacryloyloxypropyl)amino]benzoic acid are disclosed.
