Abstract: A photocurable device injection system for creating in situ polymerization via light or free-radical to enable fractured bone fixation. The system comprises a photosensitive polymeric resin sensitive to light, temperature, oxygen, enzymes, or a combination thereof. The photosensitive polymeric resin may be configured to cure at room temperature or physiological temperature with a light source. The photosensitive polymeric resin may be configured to depolymerize with ultrasonication, sonication, or a combination thereof. The system further comprises an implantable 3-dimensional biocompatible pouch comprising an optical light guide. The system further comprises one or more micro-sized ultrasonication probes configured to contact a three-dimensional pouch by one or more openings. The one or more probes may be configured to enable polymer outflow.

Abstract: A uniformly hydrated composition is provided and methods of making the uniformly hydrated composition. The method comprises providing a plurality of lyophilized porous macroparticles in a chamber, the plurality of lyophilized porous macroparticles each having an average diameter from about 0.1 mm to about 10 mm and comprising ceramic material and polymer; and mixing each of the plurality of lyophilized porous macroparticles with a fluid in the chamber to uniformly hydrate each of the plurality of lyophilized porous macroparticles to form a uniformly hydrated composition. Abstract: This invention provides solid substrates for promoting cell or tissue growth or restored function, which solid substrate is characterized by a specific fluid uptake capacity value of at least 75%, which specific fluid uptake capacity value is determined by establishing a spontaneous fluid uptake value divided by a total fluid uptake value. This invention also provides solid substrates for promoting cell or tissue growth or restored function, which solid substrate is characterized by having a contact angle value of less than 60 degrees, when in contact with a fluid. Abstract: The present disclosure provides citrate-based constructs for use in the repair of osteochondral defects. The constructs generally include: (i) a citrate component, (ii) a diol component, (iii) a polyol, and (iv) particulate inorganic material. The scaffold may take the form of a 50-90% porous scaffold and may form a polymer network. The scaffold may be soaked in a hyaluronic acid solution and may be freeze-dried to produce a porous construct within the pores of the scaffold. The scaffold may be biphasic, containing a porous section for subchondral bone regeneration and a citrate-based polymer hydrogel for cartilage regeneration. The scaffold may form an implant and the implant may include an inner porous core of a biphasic core-shell construct.

Abstract: An implant for the repair of bone and cartilage that includes a cell conductive zone that contains biopolymeric fibers and an osteoconductive zone that contains biopolymeric fibers and calcium-containing mineral particles.
