Abstract: Curable precursor compositions for adhesives (e.g., pressure sensitive adhesives) and related articles, assemblies, and methods. The provided compositions contain a mixture comprising 50 to 100 parts by weight of a first polymerizable component, 0 to 50 parts by weight of a second polymerizable component, a transition metal complex soluble in the mixture, and an effective amount of a polymerization initiator, thereby allowing for the formation of high molecular weight polymer with essentially no gel content that can be easily processed via established hot melt techniques (i.e., a hot melt processable adhesive), even in the absence of chain transfer agents or crosslinking agents.

Abstract: A method for curing adhesive during assembly of glass syringes, including: dispensing adhesive onto a glass syringe; and curing the adhesive using a UV LED line array. The method may include one or both of pre-curing the adhesive using a UV LED spot and heating at least one of the glass barrel, needle and adhesive at one or more points during the method. A system for curing an adhesive during assembly of a glass syringe, the system including: a dispensing station for dispensing the adhesive onto a glass barrel and needle; a pre-curing station for pre-curing the adhesive; a curing station for curing the adhesive; and at least one infrared heater for heating at least one of the glass barrel, needle and adhesive at one or more points in the system. The glass syringe may be operated on by a subset of the stations in the system.

Provided is a UV-curable adhesive composition containing: (A) a nitrogen-containing monomer; (B) a monofunctional (meth)acrylate monomer; (C) a crosslinking component; (D) a photopolymerization initiator; and (E) a thermoplastic resin having no reactivity with the nitrogen-containing monomer (A) nor with the monofunctional (meth)acrylate monomer (B), a cured product being obtained by applying the composition to a substrate at a thickness of 150 μm and irradiating the composition with UV light having a wavelength of 315 nm to 480 nm at an irradiance of 90 mW/cm2 and a dose of 1,350 mJ/cm2 in an atmospheric environment, the cured product having a reaction percentage of 80% or higher on both a surface facing the atmosphere and a surface facing the substrate.
