A granular agrochemical composition is disclosed including a granular core material having a water soluble portion with a first coating layer applied on the surface of the core material and a second coating layer applied on the surface of the first coating layer. The first coating layer includes a wax composition having a biologically active ingredient incorporated therein and the second coating layer includes a polymeric composition. The granular agrochemical composition exhibits a controlled rate of release of the biologically active ingredient therefrom over a period greater than about 30 days from the date of initial exposure of the granular composition to moisture whereby essentially all of the biologically active ingredient incorporated in the wax material of the first coating layer is released from the granular composition before the water soluble portion of the granular core material is released from the granular composition.

Improved, solid water-soluble fertilizer (WSF) compositions are presented which comprise at least one acid (optionally nutritive) and at least one basic fertilizer component. In one or more embodiments of the present invention, the WSF compositions demonstrate improved solubility of one or more nutrients or additives in solution, do not require additional dissolution aids or anti-caking agents, demonstrate fast dissolution times, produce precipitate free solutions, are readily compounded without intermediate wetting or drying steps, do not generate gas, and demonstrate improved stability under typical usage conditions. Finally, the WSF compositions may be used in improved processes for the creation of stock solutions, optionally with cold water, and/or delivery of nutrients to plants.

The present invention relates to a solid water soluble fertilizer composition containing one or more fertilizer materials and a phosphate free, organic acid which is solid at ambient temperatures. The fertilizer materials include primary macro nutrients, secondary macro nutrients, micro nutrients and mixtures thereof. The organic acid has a water solubility of at least 10 g/l (at 25° C.) and an acidifying effect in the range of 0.5 to 1.3 g HCO3−/g acid. The acidifying effect is defined as the amount of HCO3− that can be transformed into H2CO3 per gram of acid and is calculated in accordance with the following formula: 61 n M w , acid wherein Mw,acid is the molecular weight of said acid and n represents the number of dissociation constants (i.e., pKa values) of the acid below the value of 6.35. The acid should be present in the composition in an amount sufficient to reduce the HCO3− level in water treated with the composition by between about 60-400 parts per million when applied to the water at a dosage of 1 gram per liter.
