Abstract: A sensor measurement device includes: an impedance analyzer to determine an impedance of a sample; a first antenna configured to generate electromagnetic radiation having a first wavelength; an impedance-matching device, positioned in a radiation path between the first antenna and the sample, to receive the electromagnetic radiation from the first antenna and transmit electromagnetic radiation of the first wavelength into the sample, the impedance-matching device comprising a metasurface including: a substrate having a thickness no greater than the first wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation; and a plurality of elements supported by the substrate, wherein: the plurality of elements are spaced apart from one another across the substrate, each element has a first dimension no greater than the first wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation, and at least two elements of the plurality of elements differ in one or more of shape or size; and a second antenna configured to receive the electromagnetic radiation from the sample.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a device for concentrating a magnetic field of RF signals in an MR system, MR systems comprising the same, and methods for concentrating a magnetic field of an RF signal in an object to be imaged. A device according to the disclosure has a plurality of conductive elements arranged in an array, wherein the array is arranged to redistribute energy between electric and magnetic fields of RF radiation, a plurality of semiconductor devices each connected between two respective portions of the conductive elements; and a controller to control a bias voltage of each semiconductor device, thereby controlling the resonant frequency of the array. A method according to the disclosure includes placing said device in proximity of the object to be imaged using an MR system, irradiating the device and object with an RF signal; receiving a return RF signal from the conductive elements and object to image the object; and controlling a bias voltage of each semiconductor device of a plurality of semiconductor devices connected to conductive elements in the array to change the resonant frequency of the plurality of conductive elements.
