    Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a display assembly with dynamic brightness compensation. The display assembly includes a display element, a controller, and a backlight device. The controller obtains gaze information for a user's eye, generates emission instructions based at least in part on the gaze information, and dynamically assigns at least a portion of a plurality of light sources in the backlight device to a plurality of regions based at least in part on the gaze information. The light sources emit light through the display element, and the display element spatially modulates the light received from the backlight device to generate image light. Each subset of the light sources dynamically assigned to a respective region emits a portion of the light having brightness adjusted by a respective adjustment value in accordance with the emission instructions.

    Abstract: A power supply unit adapts based on an image to be displayed by a display panel. The power supply unit includes a controller circuit for generating a control signal, and a converter circuit for generating an output supply voltage based on the control signal. The controller circuit includes a first look-up table (LUT) storing a set of lower limit values, and a second LUT storing a set of upper limit values. Moreover, the controller circuit includes a microcontroller for receiving an on-pixel-ratio (OPR) value and identifying an entry in the first LUT and the second LUT from the received OPR value. The controller circuit further includes an output circuit for generating the control signal between a first voltage corresponding to a lower limit stored in the identified entry in the first LUT and a second voltage corresponding to an upper limit stored in the identified entry in the second LUT.

    Abstract: A display device dynamically determines pixel settle times to reduce a display latency. The display device includes a backlight unit (BLU) for providing light for displaying an image, a plurality of pixels for modulating the light provided by the BLU, and a controller circuit for controlling the BLU and the plurality of pixels. The controller circuit determines a settle time from display data for a current display frame and display data for a previous display frame, and turns on the BLU based on the determined settle time. The determined settle time corresponding to an expected amount of time for the plurality of pixel to transition from a first state corresponding to the display data for the previous display frame to a second state corresponding to the display data for the current display frame.

    Abstract: Embodiments relate to a display device including two or more sections of pixels in a display area powered by supply voltages in power rails. The display device also includes two or more power detection circuits connected to two or more locations along the power rails to detect local voltages at the locations. Depending on an image being display during a frame, the two or more sections of pixels may cause changes in local voltages at the two or more locations. The detected local voltages are provided to two or more voltage regulators, and the two or more voltage regulators update supply voltages provided to the power rails to compensate for the changes in the local voltages.

    Abstract: A display device dynamically determines a duration of the illumination period for a display frame to adjust an average brightness of a display device as the framerate dynamically changes. The display device includes a backlight unit (BLU) for providing light for displaying an image, a plurality of pixels for modulating the light provided by the BLU, and a controller circuit for controlling the BLU. The controller circuit measure a duration of a previous frame and determine a duration for an illumination period of a current frame based on the measured duration of the previous frame. The control circuit then controls the BLU based on the determined duration of the illumination period for the current frame.
