    Abstract: An optical element is provided. The optical element includes an optical film including a birefringent material having a chirality. Optically anisotropic molecules of the birefringent material disposed adjacent a first surface of the optical film are configured with a first pretilt angle in a range of greater than 10° and less than 80°, or in a range of greater than −80° and less than −10°. Optically anisotropic molecules of the birefringent material disposed adjacent a second surface of the optical film opposing the first surface are configured with a second pretilt angle in the range of greater than 10° and less than 80°, or in the range of greater than −80° and less than −10°.

    Abstract: A polarization modulator includes a first liquid crystal cell and a second liquid crystal cell. The first liquid crystal cell has a first type of liquid crystals configured to rotate an optical axis of light parallel to a first plane of the first liquid crystal cell. The second liquid crystal cell is configured to receive the light from the first liquid crystal cell. The second liquid crystal cell has a second type of liquid crystals configured to rotate the optical axis of the light perpendicular to a second plane of the second liquid crystal cell.

    Abstract: A system for measuring a satellite ghost efficiency of a diffractive lens is provided. The system includes a light source configured to output a first probing beam, and a beam tweaking assembly disposed between the light source and the diffractive lens, and configured to convert the first probing beam into a second probing beam that is a non-collimated beam. The diffractive lens diffracts the second probing beam into a plurality of diffracted beams including a first diffracted beam of a parent diffraction order and a second diffracted beam of a satellite ghost diffraction order. The beam tweaking assembly includes one or more optical lenses, and an adjustable optical power. The system also includes a detector configured to generate a beam spot pattern including a first beam spot corresponding to the first diffracted beam and a second beam spot corresponding to the second diffracted beam.
