[Also in Divisions B6 and B8] Embossed laminated films are produced by continuously feeding at least two layers 11, 11 1 of a thermoplastic film material into superposed engagement with the surface 15 of a moving support 14 to which the film material is adherent, said surface being in the form of a plurality of intersecting areas, the temperature of the surface being sufficiently high to permanently emboss those areas of the films not supported on the surface and simultaneously to heat-seal the areas of the films supported on the surface, and therafter withdrawing the laminated film from the support. The moving support is suitably a roller, and the two films may be both pressed on to the support before heating as shown, or one film may be embossed before the second film reaches the roller, the two films then being heat-sealed. This latter method produces laminates having larger air pockets. The films are suitably polyethylene, and the preferred heating means is I.R. radiation. The adhesive is suitably impregnated with I.R. absorbing material, e.g. carbon black. A roller 20 is preferably arranged to nip the laminated film 19 to ensure that the films remain sealed.
