Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for assembling elastic laminates that may be used to make absorbent article components. Particular aspects of the present disclosure include providing a first substrate and a second substrate, the first substrate and the second substrate, each having a width in a cross direction; providing an elastic material; elongating the activated elastic material using a spreader mechanism; and ultrasonically bonding the first substrate together with the second substrate with the elongated activated elastic material positioned between the first substrate and the second substrate using an anvil and an ultrasonic device.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a drum that rotates about an axis and rotating an anvil roll that rotates about an axis of rotation. The drum includes a fluid nozzle and a press member, the press member having an outer surface. The anvil roll includes a compliant outer circumferential surface. First and second substrates are advanced in a machine direction onto the drum. The fluid nozzle moves radially outward and a jet of heated fluid may be directed onto the substrates. The fluid nozzle retracts radially inward and the press member may be shifted radially outward. The substrates may be compressed between the press member and the anvil roll such that the press member deforms the compliant outer circumferential surface of the anvil roll.

Abstract: To provide a manufacturing method of a composite film for laminated glass, the method enabling the high-yield manufacture of the composite film that causes less appearance failure in the obtained laminated glass, while ensuring smooth workability. A manufacturing method of a composite film composed of a resin intermediate film and a plastic film for laminated glass, including: feeding the resin intermediate film with 0.04 to 0.4 N/cm tension and the plastic film, between a two rolls whose surface temperatures are 25 to 50° C., and pressing these to obtain a laminate; and feeding the laminate between a third roll whose surface temperature is 60° C. or higher and lower than Tg of a resin in the plastic film and a fourth roll whose surface temperature is lower than this by 15 to 30° C., so as to bring the plastic film into contact with the third roll, and pressing the laminate.

Abstract: There is provided a technique that readily performs positioning of a joining member relative to a strip member during conveyance. A joining device 100 joins a gas diffusion layer 7 with a first catalyst electrode layer 2 of a strip body 5r which is a continuous strip member of a membrane electrode assembly 5, while conveying the strip body 5r. A controller 101 of the joining device 100 obtains a detection time td based on a detection signal of a catalyst layer detector 130 when a front end 3e of a second catalyst electrode layer 3 placed on the strip body 5r passes through a detection point DP. The controller 101 subsequently obtains a joining position reach time tt based on the detection time td when the gas diffusion layer 7 reaches a press point PP of joining rollers 152. The controller 101 starts conveying the gas diffusion layer 7 by means of a transfer at a conveying start time ts that is obtained based on the joining position reach time tt and a specified speed pattern of the transfer 141.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for mechanically modifying substrates. The apparatuses herein may include a tool roll and an anvil roll. The tool roll may include tooling members adapted to perform various different operations, such as bonding, cutting, embossing, and/or activation of advancing substrates. The tooling members and associated tooling surfaces may not extend completely around the circumference of the tool roll. As such, the tool roll also includes one or more bearer rings that engage the anvil roll during portions of the tool roll rotation where the tooling members are not in engagement with the anvil roll. The tooling members and bearer rings herein are configured to help reduce vibrations in the anvil and/or tool roll caused by the alternating engagements of the tooling surfaces and bearer rings with the anvil roll during rotation.

Abstract: A laminate film manufacturing method is capable of preventing thickness unevenness of a cured layer and preventing wrinkling of the entire laminate film. A laminate film is manufactured by applying a coating solution including an active radiation curable resin to a surface of a first film that is continuously transported in an application part to form a coated film in a lamination part, laminating a second film that is continuously transported on the coated film to sandwich the coated film between the first film and the second film, and in a state in which the coated film is sandwiched between the first film and the second film, winding the first film around a backup roller and irradiating the coated film with infrared rays from an ultraviolet irradiation device while continuously transporting the first film to cure the coated film in a curing part so as to form a cured layer.

Abstract: Methods for forming discrete deformations in web materials are disclosed. In some embodiments, the method involves feeding a web into an apparatus having nips that are formed between intermeshing rolls. The apparatus may be in the form of nested or other arrangements of multiple rolls, in which the web is maintained in substantial contact with at least one of the rolls throughout the process, and at least two of the rolls define two or more nips thereon with other rolls. In some embodiments, rolls can be used to expose a different side of the web for a subsequent deformation step. In these or other embodiments, the rolls can be used to transfer the web between rolls in such a manner that it may offset the rolls and/or web so that subsequent deformations are formed at a different cross-machine direction location than prior deformations.
