摘要: An image is updated on a bi-stable display (310) such as an electrophoretic display in a transition from a current image state to a subsequent image state. A voltage waveform (600, 620, 640, 660; 700, 720, 740, 760) is selected based on the current and subsequent image states, and a previous image state. The bi-stable display (310) is driven from the current image state to the subsequent image state using the selected voltage waveform. For a given transition from the current to the next image state, different waveforms are stored for different previous states, e.g., black, dark grey, light grey and white. The different waveforms may have different drive pulse (DR) or reset pulse (RE1, RE2) energies. In a trial and error optimization process, different waveforms with different reset and/or drive pulse energies are tested for different previous image states to see which waveform yields the smallest greyscale error.

摘要: This invention relates to an electrophoretic display panel (1), for displaying a picture corresponding to image information, comprising a plurality of pixels (2), each containing an amount of an electrophoretic material comprising a first and a second type of particles (6, 7), having mutually different charges, being dispersed in a fluid, a first and a second electrode (8, 9) associated with each pixel (4) for receiving a potential difference as defined by an update drive waveform; and drive means (10), for controlling said update drive waveform of each pixel (4); said update drive waveform comprising a reset portion (R), during which a reset signal is applied over the pixel, and subsequently a driving portion (D), during which a picture potential difference is applied over the pixel for enabling the particles (6, 7) to occupy the position corresponding to the image information. The invention is characterised in that said reset portion (R) of the update drive waveform is configured so that the first and second types of particles (6,7) are brought in close proximity with each other during said reset portion (R) of the update waveform.

摘要: Bi-stable electrophoretic display device (1) having a normal mode and a scrolling mode, in which image transitions are effected by causing the charged particles (8,9) to toggle between the intermediate optical states (e.g. grey-to-grey) or between an extreme optical state and an intermediate optical state (e.g. white-to-light grey), with a corresponding short update time tscroll. When the device (1) enters a scrolling mode in response to a scrolling command from a user, picture elements are first driven to a special scrolling optical. state, after which drive waveforms for scrolling mode are used for fast toggling between two scrolling states. An increased scrolling speed and very short scrolling time can be realized, without adversely affecting image quality during a normal mode.

摘要: The present invention relates to a display device comprising an outer display stacked with an inner display and being arranged to be operable in a first, multiple view mode and a second, single view mode. An idea of the invention is to arrange an electrophoretic display on top of an emissive display. The display device may be operated in two modes; a first mode being a multiple or dual view mode and a second mode being a single view mode. In order to activate the single view mode, the outer display is set in a transparent state and the inner display is turned on, such that it displays desired objects. In the multiple view mode, the outer display is functioning as a 3D-barrier. Hence, some of the picture elements of the outer display are set in a transparent state while others are set in an opaque state. The viewer sees a different picture with each respective eye, and will accordingly experience a multiple view picture of an object that is displayed on the inner display.
