The receiver receives a first control signal to open or close the first shutter and a second control signal to open or close the second shutter from a display device that, in synchronization with display timing of a video signal for left eye and a video signal for right eye, displays the video signals. The controller controls the first shutter and the second shutter to open or close based on the first control signal and the second control signal, respectively, while switching between stereoscopic view mode and planar view mode depending on the distance to the display device.
