摘要: An identification system comprises an interrogator and a plurality of transponders. The interrogator includes a transmitter which transmits at least two independent interrogation signals to the transponders, and a receiver for receiving response signals from the transponders. The interrogator also includes processor means for identifying the transponders from data in the received response signals. Each transponder comprises receiving means, a code generator, and transmitter means connected to the code generator. On receipt of at least one of the transmitted interrogation signals the transponder transmits a response signal containing data which identifies it. The interrogation signals may be transmitted continuously or intermittently. In a preferred embodiment, the interrogation signals are relatively narrow bandwidth signals at different frequencies. The receiving means of each transponder has a relatively broad reception bandwidth so that the transponder is responsive to one or more of the interrogation signals.

摘要: An identification system having an interrogator and a number of transponders. The interrogator includes a transmitter for transmitting an interrogation signal to the transponder, and a receiver for receiving a response signal from the transponder. A micro-processor identifies the transponder from data in the response signal. Each transponder includes a receiving antenna for receiving the interrogation signal, a code generator, a transmitting antenna, and a modulator connected to the code generator. On receipt of the interrogation signal the transponder repeatedly transmits a response signal containing data which identifies the transponder. The interrogator detects successful identification of any transponder and briefly interrupts the interrogation signal to indicate the successful identification. Each transponder includes a logic circuit responsive to a respective interruption in the interrogation signal to cease transmission of its own response signal.

摘要: A radio frequency transponder assembly comprises a passive transponder and an antenna with a matching circuit comprising an inductor and a capacitor which are formed integrally with the antenna components. The antenna is a dipole with legs formed from wire or foil strips, in which case the inductor and capacitor are formed from same material as the antenna legs. The values of the inductor and capacitor are calculated to match the antenna impedance to the equivalent load of the transponder circuit as seen via the power rectification circuits of the transponder.

摘要: An identification system is provided for identifying a plurality of randomly aligned object-based transponders (18, 20, 22) passing through a predetermined reading volume. A reader (10) includes multiple transmitting and receiving antenna arrays (12, 14, 16) which are arranged sequentially to transmit interrogating and energizing fields (29) into the reading volume, with each energizing field having a different polarisation. Each transponder (12, 14, 16) is arranged to be powered by at least one of the interrogating and energizing fields, and includes a short term memory module (30) which is arranged to record the successful transmission or otherwise of the identification signal of the transponder (20) and to retain the record in the absence of a power supply to the transponder. The short term memory module has a retention time longer than any predicted interruption of power supply to the transponder via one of the energizing fields within the reading volume. The minimum memory retention time is typically the time period taken for the sequential transmission of all but one of the interrogating and energizing fields (29) during an interrogation cycle.

摘要: An identification system is provided for identifying a plurality of object-based transponders (14, 16, 18, 20) using an interrogator (10). The interrogator (10) includes a transmitter for transmitting an interrogation signal to the transponders, a receiver for receiving identification signals from the transponders, and processor means (21) for determining the individual and correct receipt of an identification signal. The transponders operate on the basis of backscatter modulation, and include a detector for detecting the presence of an interrupt signal from the interrogator. Control logic responsive to the detector is arranged to cease signal transmission from the transponder if the transponder completes transmission of the identification signal without receiving an interrupt signal during such transmission. The interrogator (10) is arranged to receive the identification signals from the transponders (14, 16, 18, 20) and substantially contemporaneously to determine if any identification signal has been individually and correctly received. In the event of any identification signal is being individually and correctly received, the interrogator (10), at substantially the same time, transmits a common interrupt signal for temporarily suspending signal transmission from a transponder (14) if the transponder is transmitting its identification signal at the time it receives the interrupt signal. The transponder (14) independently ceases signal transmission if it completes transmission of an identification signal without receiving an interrupt signal.

摘要: The invention relates to an identification system comprising an interrogator and a plurality of transponders. The interrogator includes transmitter means for transmitting an interrogation signal to the transponder, receiver means for receiving a response signal from the transponder, and processor means for identifying the transponder from data in the response signal. Clock extraction means are further provided for extracting a transponder clock signal from the response signal which is used to synchronise the modification of the interrogation signal with the response signal from the transponder. Each transponder comprises receiver means for receiving the interrogation signal, a transponder clock generator, a code generator, transmitter means, and a modulator connected to the code generator, so that on receipt of the interrogation signal the transponder transmits a response signal containing data which identifies the transponder. The interrogator is adapted to detect successful reception of a response signal from any transponder, to derive a synchronisation signal from the response signal of that transponder, and to modify the interrogation signal synchronously with the response signal to indicate successful reception of the response signal. Each transponder further includes means responsive to a respective modification of the interrogation signal to cease transmission of its response signal.
