摘要: An extruder assembly has a gear box drivable by a motor, an output shaft having a main portion extending through the gear box and rotatable by operation of the motor and gear box, and an extruder housing located forwardly of the gear box. The output shaft has a further portion extending forwardly from the main portion and passing into the extruder housing and having a screw configuration therein for feeding plastic material through the housing when the output shaft is rotated. The main portion of the output shaft is axially slidable in the gear box, and the forwardly extending portion has a diameter not greater than the diameter of the main portion whereby the output shaft can be withdrawn from the housing and the gear box by rearward movement therethrough. A retainer is operable to retain the output shaft in an operative position for rotation to feed plastic material through the housing and also to permit the output shaft to be withdrawn by rearward movement when desired.

摘要: A method of extruding plastic material in multi-layer form includes: providing an extrusion die having a first body member and a second body member surrounding the first body member and forming an annular passage therebetween which communicates with an annular extrusion orifice, the body members having a series of helical grooves extending around the die and each commencing at a separate location, the separate locations being spaced around a lower portion of the first body member. A single encapsulating unit provides a flow of encapsulated plastic material comprising a first plastic material surrounded by a second plastic material at an outlet thereof. The first body member having a series of cross-holes extending from the encapsulating unit output and each communicating with a respective separate location. The feeding encapsulated plastic material is fed from the outlet of the single encapsulating unit through the cross-holes to the helical grooves and subsequently to the annular passage for extrusion through the annular extrusion orifice as a multi-layer film in which the layers are inclined to and extend to the opposite surfaces of said film.

摘要: An internal cooling air supply assembly has a lower annular member mountable on an annular die so as to be within extruded tubular plastic film as the film leaves the die. An intermediate annular member is positionable above the lower annular member with an air removal chimney extending upwardly therethrough, the intermediate annular member forming a first chamber with the lower annular member and having an annular lower edge spaced from and co-operating with an annular upper edge of the lower annular member to form a first cooling air outlet from the first chamber. The intermediate annular member has a transfer passage for transferring cooling air from the first chamber to the interior of the intermediate annular member. A first upper annular member is positionable above the intermediate annular member with the air removal chimney extending upwardly therethrough, the upper annular member forming a second chamber with the intermediate annular member and having an annular lower edge spaced from and co-operating with an upper annular edge of the intermediate annular member to form a second cooling air outlet from the second chamber. The intermediate annular member has a first series of circumferentially spaced upwardly directed passages extending from the exterior thereof to the upper annular edge thereof.

Each strip has an inner layer of synthetic plastic material with a first melting temperature and two outer layers of synthetic plastic material on opposite sides of and bonded to the inner layer, the outer layers being of a synthetic plastic material with a second melting temperature lower than the first melting temperature. The woven strips comprise longitudinally-extending strips and transversely-extending strips interwoven therewith, and the outer layers of crossing longitudinally-extending strips and transversely-extending strips are bonded together at crossing locations.

摘要: The apparatus of the invention provides gauge distribution in extruded plastic tubing, so that a more uniform roll thereof is obtained. The extruded plastic tube, usually blown to increase its diameter and decrease its wall thickness, is collapsed and passed through a diametrical slot in a rotor, which is rotated about a vertical axis so that any non-uniformity in wall thickness of the tube is distributed as much as possible around its periphery. The upwardly-moving tube passes over a skew member which turns it to move horizontally. Two spaced parallel end rollers are provided between one end of the slot and the rotor periphery, and each engages the tube during a respective 180.degree. of rotation to deliver the tube to a fixed roller on the apparatus frame from where it passes to the storage roll. Two deflection rollers are also provided on opposite sides of the slot, and each engages the tube in the rotation of the rotor close to zero and 360.degree. to hold the tube away from the slot and ensure that it does not foul the portion of the tube emerging from the slot. A dancer roll may be provided to maintain constant tension. The tube engaging members may be rollers or hollow bars with air issuing apertures in the surfaces over which the tube passes to form a corresponding air cushion between the tube and the member surface.

摘要: A film guiding assembly for guiding a plastic film during travel along a desired path includes at least two non-rotating turning bars over which the film passes, and an actuator for pivoting the turning bars to laterally shift the film. A sensor for senses the lateral position of the film downstream of the turning bars and operates to cause the actuator to pivot the turning bars when necessary to maintain the film leaving the guiding assembly in the desired path.

摘要: Gauge distribution apparatus for plastic film has a frame, a rotor mounted on the frame for sequential reversed rotation about a substantially vertical axis, and at least one slot in the rotor through which two lengths of plastic film can pass upwardly with spaced adjacent faces from below the rotor. A first turning member is mounted on the rotor for receiving one length of plastic film and changing the direction of motion thereof from upwardly to horizontally, and a second turning member is mounted on the rotor for receiving the other length of plastic film and changing its direction of motion from upwardly to horizontally. A series of upstanding circumferentially spaced film engaging members extend around the rotor, each film engaging member having an outer surface for engagement by the plastic film. A third turning member is mounted on the frame for receiving one length of plastic film after it has engaged at least one of the film engaging members and changing its direction of motion from horizontally to vertically, and a fourth turning member is mounted on the frame for receiving the other length of plastic film after it has engaged at least one of the film engaging members. One length of the plastic film first engages a film engaging member which is diametrically opposite a film engaging member first engaged by the other length of plastic film, and the lengths of plastic film travel in opposite directions around respective portions of the rotor.

摘要: An extrusion die for extruding plastic material as a tubular film has mututally engaging first and second body members which form an annular extrusion orifice therebetween. One of the body members has main feed grooves in a surface thereof adjacent the other body member and extending in a spiral manner relative to the annular extrusion orifice, and one of the body members has supply grooves in a surface thereof adjacent the other body member for receiving plastic material from one or more extruders. Each supply groove has an end portion adjacent but spaced from an initial portion of a main feed groove, whereby plastic material from the extruder or extruders is received by the supply grooves and forced from the end portions thereof along a passage between the body members and into the initial portions of the spiral feed grooves.

摘要: A strip unwinding machine has laterally spaced tracks for receiving opposite ends of a shaft on which a roll of strip mounted. A transfer assembly moves a new roll and shaft along the tracks from a loading position to an unwinding position, and a rotatable unwinding roller is located at the unwinding position. The transfer assembly also urges the roll against the unwinding roller to cause the roll to be rotated thereby with consequent unwinding to the strip from the roll. A raising assembly which rotates completely around the unwinding roller raises a nearly empty roll and shaft at the unwinding position upwardly from the tracks and from the transfer assembly while maintaining engagement of the roll with the unwinding roller to enable a new roll and shaft to be brought to the unwinding position by the transfer assembly. A cutting assembly carried by the raising assembly cuts the strip from the nearly empty roll when the new roll is brought into engagement with the unwinding roller by the transfer assembly to cause the last portion of the strip unwound from the nearly empty roll to adhere to an initial portion of the strip on the new roll so as to continuously feed strip from the machine.
