    摘要: In an ATM communication apparatus, the same failure detection process is conducted for the detection of a failure state of a VP when a transmission line of the apparatus fails and the detection of the failure state of the VP when a VP-AIS cell generated by another apparatus is received. When an AIS cell generation unit receives a channel failure signal generated by a line terminator, it generates an AIS cell and inserts it in a receiving cell stream. A circuit provided at downstream of the cell stream copies or extracts the AIS cells, determines the failure state, generates a FERF cell in accordance with the determination, and inserts it in a sending cell stream.

At the time of arrival of the leading cell of each burst data, if the output line has room, the PVC of the burst data is stored as information for admission and identification. The subsequently-arriving cells having the same PVC identification information as the stored identification information are input to an output buffer, and the cells of the remaining burst data are all discarded. Even when a plurality of burst data compete for the same output line, the fact that all the cells other than the first-arriving admitted burst data are discarded prevents the cells from being input other than within a predetermined bandwidth and localizes the burst data affected by the cell discarding due to output queue overflow.

    摘要: In an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network, if an originating terminal notifies necessity or unnecessity of transmitting a fault notification signal through a call set-up message, the content of the notification is notified to respective node devices on a target virtual path (VP) in the procedures of transmission/reception of a call control message. Each of the node devices makes a virtual channel (VC) table of a line interface 100 corresponding to the VP store the information indicating necessity or unnecessity to transmit a fault notification signal. When a fault arises in the VP, one of the node devices on the downstream side detects the fault, its interface connected to the fault VP sees the VC table and determines the necessity or unnecessity of fault management operation and maintenance (OAM) cell support with respect to respective VCs multiplexed on the fault VP, so as to issue a fault management OAM cell with respect to only VCs regarded as necessary.

In the invention when a connecting point detects a defect in a lower layer and when the connecting point is not a branching point the connecting point sends a first defect notification signal in the downstream direction of a first connection. When the connecting point receives the first defect notification signal and when the connecting point is a branching point, the connecting point terminates the first defect notification signal, sends a quasi-defect notification signal in the downstream direction of the first connection, and returns a second defect notification signal in the downstream direction of a second connection in the opposite direction of the first connection. Connecting points in the downstream direction of the first connection transfer the quasi-defect notification signal in the downstream direction of the first connection without processing and end points, upon receiving the quasi-defect notification signal, execute a predetermined state transition.
