To provide a nonionic powdery detergent free from oozing of a liquid nonionic surfactant at ambient temperature and having excellent powder fluidity and non-caking properties and a solubility which is not deteriorated with time. The nonionic powdery detergent composition comprises (a) 12 to 35% by weight of a nonionic surfactant having a melting point of not higher than 40.degree. C. and an HLB in the range of 9.0 to 16.0, (b) 10 to 60% by weight of a crystalline aluminosilicate and (c) 5 to 20% by weight of an amorphous oil-absorbing carrier containing at least 30% by weight of silicon (in terms of SiO.sub.2) versus the weight of said carrier in an anhydrous state and having an oil-absorbing capacity of at least 80 ml/100 g, said carrier giving a dispersion with a pH of at least 9 or being soluble in a 2% aqueous NaOH solution in an amount of 0.5 g or below.

The synthesized crystalline ion exchange material or a hydrate thereof has a chain structure and a composition represented by the following general formula (A) in an anhydride form:xM.sub.2 O.ySiO.sub.2.zM'O, (A)wherein M represents Na and/or K; M' represents Ca and/or Mg; y/x is 0.5 to 2.0; and z/x is 0.005 to 1.0. The chain structure exhibits at least one main scattering peak at 970.+-.20 cm.sup.-1 in Raman spectra. The detergent composition contains the above synthesized inorganic crystalline ion exchange material. The inorganic ion exchange material of the present invention is excellent in both cationic exchange capacity and anti-solubility, making it useful to be used for a water softener and alkalinity regulator in detergents. The detergent composition of the present invention contains an inorganic ion exchange material which has anti-solubility as well as excellent ion exchange capacity and alkaline capacity, thereby offering excellent washing effects and is suitable for the concentration of detergent.

A granular or powdery detergent composition comprising (I) as an active detergent component a surface active agent having a tendency to cake, and (II) as an anti-caking agent, from 0.2 to 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the detergent composition, of a carboxylic acid or an alkali metal salt thereof obtained by reacting (A) a polyalkylene glycol and (B) an acid anhydride, at an (A)/(B) mole ratio of from 1/2 to 1/1, said polyalkylene glycol being selected from (i) polyethylene glycols having an average molecular weight of 2000 to 10000 and (ii) nonionic surface active agents having the formula: ##STR1## wherein a, b and c are numbers satisfying the relations:140 .ltoreq.
