Abstract:
Provided is a variable-wavelength surface emission laser having a wide wavelength variation range. A partial region of a thin-plate substrate (22) and a movable mirror (20), the partial region being positioned between an air gap (G1) and a movable gap (G2), can move toward the air gap (G1) side or the movable gap (G2) side.
Abstract:
PROBLEMSTo provide a method for evaluating characteristics of MZ interferometers in an optical modulator having a plurality of MZ interferometers.MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMSWhen an optical modulator includes a plurality of MZ interferometers, the 0-degree component contains a signal derived from an MZ interferometer other than the MZ interferometers for evaluating the characteristic. For this, it is impossible to accurately evaluate the characteristic of the MZ interferometers. The present invention does not use the 0-degree component normally having the highest intensity. That is, the characteristic of the MZ interferometers are evaluated by using a side band intensity of the component other than the 0-degree component.

It is therefore an object of the disclosure of this document to attain a data transmission system with a simple transmitter implementing polarization multiplexing using either DML or EAM and a receiver with only one PD. A data transmission system 1 which comprises a transmitter 3 and a receiver 5, wherein the transmitter 3 comprises a first signal processor 11 and an optical signal generator 13, the optical signal generator 13 outputs an optical signal which comprises X and Y polarization components, ex(t) and ey(t), and wherein the first signal processor 11 receives a first data stream, Sx, and a second data stream, Sy, and controls the X and Y polarization components to reflect the first and the second data streams, respectively, wherein the receiver 5 comprises only one photodetector 21 and a second signal processor 23.
