A head-up display device according to the present invention is provided with a display means for projecting display light to a front window shield provided to a vehicle, and generating and displaying a virtual image, formed by the display light reflected at the front window shield, so as to be superposed on an actual scene seen through the front window shield. At least a part of a virtual image display region in which the virtual image is displayed is positioned below a road surface on which the vehicle travels.

The HUD device includes: a rotation driving unit which changes an angle formed between the area in which the first virtual image can be displayed, and the area in which the second virtual image can be displayed; and a control unit which performs virtual image angle adjustment processing for adjusting the angle using the rotation driving unit, and, when performing the virtual image angle adjustment processing, virtual image position changing processing in which the position of the second virtual image in the area in which the second virtual image can be displayed is changed to inhibit deviation in the relative positional relationship between the first and second virtual images.

The control unit divides each frame of a displayed image into a display period during which the light source unit emits light and a non-display period during which the light source unit does not emit light. The control unit further divides, among a plurality of sub-frames forming the frame, each of display sub-frames included in the display period into division display sub-frames. The control unit causes at least one of the light emitting elements of the light source unit to emit light for each of the display sub-frames, and sets respective inclined states of movable reflection elements for each of the division display sub-frames.

The control unit stops supplying current to the light sources and supplies current at a first current value only to the temperature adjustment unit when the detected temperature is within a low-temperature or high- temperature non-displayed range of the display element.
