Abstract: The invention relates to an axial piston machine of a kind that has a plurality of pistons each reciprocating in a respective cylinder in a direction substantially parallel or at an angle less than 30 degrees to a crankshaft axis. The crankshaft axis presents a crank that is at an angle to the crankshaft axis and to which a reciprocator is mounted. The reciprocator effects the controlled movement of the pistons in their cylinders via a connection mechanism that connects each said piston with said reciprocator. The machine includes at least one pair of rotational constraint mechanisms to constrain the movement between the reciprocator and the pistons.

Abstract: An engine/pump having a crank shaft with a shaft axis and a crank axis oblique to the shaft axis which intersect with each other. Piston/cylinder assemblies rotate about the shaft axis and have a reciprocal axis between its top dead center and bottom dead center. The reciprocal axis midway between TDC and BDC being normal to a line projected from the intersection of the shaft axis and the crank axis. A cylinder head holds the cylinders in an array. The head includes at least one port per cylinder, and a port relative to which the cylinder head moves sealably to allow timed to the reciprocal movement of each piston in its cylinder and the rotational position, the opening and closing of each cylinder. Each cylinder is indexed at a predetermined rate to the relative rotation of the crankshaft through gearing.

Abstract: A two or four stroke internal combustion engine has a ported plate with a series of intake and exhaust ports connected respectively to an air intake and an exhaust system. A shaft is rotatable relative to the ported plate. the shaft carries a crank shaft with a crank axis oblique to the shaft axis. An array of one or more combustion chambers rotates about the shaft axis. Each combustion chamber includes at least one port which is brought into and out of operative communication with the series of intake and exhaust ports as the combustion chamber moves over the face of the ported plate. A piston reciprocates in each combustion chamber under the control of a wobbling member journalled onto the crank shaft. For each combustion chamber port an annular seal is located within an annular groove about the port and is biased toward the ported plate by combustion fluid pressure.

Abstract: A reciprocator restraint assembly for a Z-crank axial piston machine is described. The assembly includes two gimbal arms each linked together at gimbal link joint that intersect at a point T. Point T lying in a medial plane M being defined as the plane passing through the point of coincidence of the crank and crankshaft axes to which the line that bisects the crank angle is normal. Each of the gimbal arms is pivotally mounted at an identical distance L from point T. A cylinder gimbal is pivotally mounted from the cylinder cluster and a reciprocator gimbal is pivotally mounted from the reciprocator. The reciprocator gimbal pivot axis is equidistant from point X and T as is the cylinder gimbal pivot axis. The orientations of the pivot axes of the two gimbal arms being mutual reflections in the medial plane M resulting in the point T lying on the medial plane M as the crankshaft rotates with respect to the cylinder cluster, and thus ensuring homo-kinetic rotational restraint between the reciprocator and the cylinder cluster.
