    摘要: Two embodiments of improved compact outboard motors that are designed so that the power head does not encroach into the associated watercraft forwardly of the hull when the motor is tilted up about its tilt axis. In each embodiment, the internal combustion engine of the power head is located in such a way that it can be conveniently serviced and yet will note encroach when the motor is tilted up. In one embodiment, the engine is disposed with its output shaft extending transversely and its cylinders inclined rearwardly. In the other embodiment, the cylinders are aligned and extend vertically so that the engine output shaft extends perpendicularly to the associated hull.

    摘要: A marine outboard drive and more particularly to an improved transmission and propeller shaft supporting arrangement for the lower unit. The propeller shaft is supported by means of a spaced anti-friction bearings to avoid cantilever loading of the propeller shaft. In addition, the propeller shaft has a splined connection with an intermediate shaft of a forward, neutral, reverse transmission and this splined connection includes internal splines formed in an enlarged diameter portion of the propeller shaft. One of the spaced anti-friction bearings engages the enlarged diameter portion of the propeller shaft.

In each embodiment, the forward and reverse driving thrusts are transmitted independently to the lower unit housing. In one embodiment, a single thrust flange transmits the thrust from the propeller shaft to both of the thrust bearings and in the other embodiment, the thrust is transmitted to the thrust bearings on opposite sides of the forward, reverse transmission for axially separating the driving thrusts from each other.

    摘要: An outboard engine is supported on a casing which forms an internal discharge chamber having an opening at its top end and a discharge passage with a discharge port near its lower end. The cooling water discharge pipe and an exhaust pipe discharge into the chamber, the cooling water discharge pipe doing so at a lower elevation than the exhaust pipe. A water storage chamber is formed between the casing and the exhaust pipe in heat transfer relationship therewith, and circulation of water is provided to and from the water storage chamber.

The trim tab is operated by means of a pair of flexible transmitters that are affixed, at their upper ends, to extend in a generally longitudinal direction and which are operated from a drum by means of a lost motion connection that is operative in response to movement of the steering lever relative to the outboard motor. The steering lever is further supported for rotation and is operatively connected to the engine throttle for controlling its throttle in response to rotation of the control lever.
