    Abstract: A medium changing device includes a lid disposed at a position where two or more regions in which a medium may be stored are covered therewith, the regions being disposed adjacent to each other and being open upward; one or more flow-path members each disposed so as to penetrate the lid, and each disposed at a position where one of the regions is bridged to another therewith when the lid is disposed at the position where the regions are covered; and a pump disposed on the other side of the lid and acting on the intermediate sections of the flow-path members, exposed on the other side, so as to cause the medium to flow from the opening at one end toward the opening at the other end of each of the flow-path members.

    Abstract: A cell culturing device includes: a sensor that measures a pH of a medium in which cells are being cultured; and one or more processors including hardware. The one or more processors are configured to: measure an elapsed time since the cells were seeded in the medium; determine whether the measured pH is lower than a prescribed threshold and whether the measured elapsed time has passed a prescribed time; and issue an instruction for medium replacement in response to determining that the pH is lower than the prescribed threshold or in response to determining that the elapsed time has passed the prescribed time.

    Abstract: An observation apparatus includes: an image capturing apparatus that includes an imaging surface and captures an image of an object to be observed; an optical system that projects an optical image of the object onto the image capturing apparatus; a focusing unit that adjusts, with reference to the optical-axis direction of the optical system, the relative positional relationship between the object and a surface optically conjugate to the imaging surface; and a processor that controls at least the image capturing apparatus and the focusing unit. The processor decides an in-focus position for the focusing unit based on a plurality of images of the object that acquired by the image capturing apparatus, the plurality of images each being an image acquired when the focusing unit is located at a different position; determines the reliability of the decided in-focus position; and when determining that the in-focus position is not reliable, moves the focusing unit sequentially to a plurality of positions and causes the image capturing apparatus to acquire, for each of the plurality of positions, a candidate image of the object.
